I have to fix WHY my non-IRA brokerage account no longer gives me the option. What I see when I change account from IRA to non-IRA : " Will not be able to use Update Retirement Account Wizard. Any current info entered via the wizard will be lost. Click Ok." I then noticed another box appeared on the account details - below the retirement account checkbox named " Tax Deferred". I unchecked that. Then viewed portfolio, 1. I checked the account to make sure that " Actual Cost Basis" is still my selection ( It was prior to all of this) It is. 2. clicked the + next to one of the sold funds to see the entries. ( will do one as a test) 3. scrolled to the Sell entry and right-clicked on it. 4. I now see reallocate lots as an option - Good. 5. I selected Reallocate Lots and then I see that it is now set to " Use default method - FIFO for stocks or Avg Cost Basis for mutuals funds". ( Even though I have " Actual Cost Basis" selected for the account and the fund name). I changed to " Let me choose which shares ..." and clicked Next, and for this test, I chose "Max Gain"- it selected the shares. 6. Back to the main Portfolio screen and I do see that the GAIN column has changed by ~$200. 7 Close Money. Reopen the test file 8. Change the account back to Retirement- select IRA. Get the " Now you can use the Update Wizard" message. 9. Back to Portfolio screen and the Gain reflects my lots being selected ( still ~$200 difference in gain ) , but I can't tell otherwise as the LOTS option is no longer a choice. Now I'll go enter all my lots info for my sales. Also, I tried Planner - Purchase Wizard (came across that via help for the lots issue) and it only shows Non-retirement accounts. While both were non-ira's it listed all holdings and "lots" of each - nice. Like Office , it seems there a lot of neat stuff in here that I've never used before. Now I'll go check balances and enter all my lots info for my sales in this IRA. BUT for one of my 401k's I've used the Update wizard a lot, so I can't do this as I would lose a lot of info where I just entered my total shares and it did a " Add shares". I'll deal with it later. I got the pop-up in the non-IRA and not in the IRA. Same file settings. Same fund. You could probably work around this by de-selecting RetirementAccount in the account settings, do the sell, and then re-select RetirementAccount; I did not test that. |

| Cal, I tried in my brokerage acct to sell more shares of a fund that I'd already sold specific shares, and it's not an option in my brokerage acct either. I'm doing something wrong - how do I get to the screen with the "sell specific shares" option ? I went back to original conversation about this on Mar 11: http://groups.google.com/group/micro...02949744b0ccba and I haven't changed a thing since - but I'm not seeing the same screens that I saw then. Tools-> Options-> Investments-> TrackAllInvesmentsAsFIFO is still cleared. I have Actual Cost Basis selected for all of my sold funds in all accounts. ( In January I noticed that Money was using avg cost on a few that I did not have when I first setup the Money file. I went thru them all so that I COULD easily align with my Tax Return. I did double-check - each of the funds sold are Actual Cost Basis. ) What I'll do is create a few buy of the same funds followed by sales in my non-IRA's. If it works in my Brokerage account and not in my IRA acccounts, then not giving me the lots option in IRA is the fact that it's a non-taxable account so neither Money ( nor Fidelity) care about lots in IRA's. Again it's academic, but on paper I'd like to sell the "old stuff" that I bought at $11, $12 a share that is currently $27. It would give me more info when I look at gain over next year or so . Currently I show big gains on a lot of stuff when the "real gain" happened years ago. ( Although if the market keeps up like Thursday + Friday selloffs, gains might not be an issue) I'll let you know how it goes in my non-ira's vs ira accounts Bobb |

| I know taxes aren't an issue in an IRA, but for the first time in a long time I sold some stuff earlier this week in my IRA. AND it was not the entire position. When I enter it into Money, I do not get an option to select the lots ( just so I can see " how I'm doing" in the GAIN column). I right-click - SELL - and no option to choose lots. I don't have FIFO selected and this is the first time in a while that I've sold in my IRA. I checked the past entries but it was always a sale of the whole postion so LOTS didn't matter. In my regular account, "Lots " worked a few months ago. I just opened the register for that sale and I can "reallocate lots", so the function works. But does it work for non-taxable accounts ? I tried Money HELP but no mention either way . Thanks, Bobb |
