Default Re: Support

I believe I have discovered the remaining "glitch" with regard to my issues
with Money's "Budget." As noted previously, I am using Money Deluxe &
Business [2002]. As was referenced in some of the material I was directed
to by others on this forum, Money's Budget does not include items allocated
to "Business." This would seem to account for the remaining discrepancies I
am noting in the "Actual" column populated by Money. Bottom line, it is not
designed to do what I want it to do...

Thanks to all who are reading this and assisted me in getting closure.

I've been trying to respond to your reply, but am experiencing difficulty
even accessing this site as described in another Post.

My schedule has dictated that I take a break from my "project," but I intend
to revisit it. Is it possible that I could e-mail you directly or will you
be receiving notices if I continue to "Reply" to the original Post?

I have a few more pieces of my "puzzle" to apply, but would welcome your
input at the point that I can clarify some of my remaining questions.

Ron

I use Money 2002, regular not business, and I use budgeting every day.

Money 2002's budget tool is very good and I could not live without it. I
did see both of your prior questions but I have no idea what your problem
is.

As Dick W said the utility of a budget depends on how the user sets it up.
If the user does not have proper accounts and categories, the budget will be
useless. We have no idea what your Money file looks like and it would take
a vast amount of time to figure out what you want and why your budget is not
working to your satisfaction. One major problem is Money's autobudget which
you apparently used. Generally speaking never let Money do anything for you
such as setup a budget or categories. The assumptions Money's programmers
use are virtually always wrong and produce nonsense. There is no way I
could ever diagnose an Autobudget problem because the tool is moronic.

To get the most out of Money's budget tool you should also use Bills and
Deposits and schedule every bit of income and expense that can be scheduled.
This will also allow you to use Money's Cash Flow tool which is
extradinarily useful but depends on Bills and Deposits.

You might try explaining your problems more clearly with specifics and I
will certainly try to help.

I appreciate your understanding, sorry I can't help more. You might want to
search the archives for the group in an advanced search at
http://groups.google.com.

You might also want to play around with Budget Planner in a test file just
to see if you can duplicate your issue or see something different in how
that's working.

Sometimes Money is just goofy for no apparent reason. I have one category
with transactions that refuses to show up in an Income and Expense report
with all categories selected. Who knows why? My experience with BP is that
it tends to have a disproportionate share of these kinds of things.

Good luck.

p.s., one other reason I tend to avoid swinging at BP questions is that in
many cases--not yours, but one learns habits--is that many people want it to
work in different ways than it DOES work.

I generally don't try to answer budgeting questions. Some reasons:

It's sensitive to lots of data in the file and it can take forever to
diagnose what the user actually has in the file.

At its best it doesn't work all that well and is full of quirky/buggy (pick
your favorite) behavior.

Different people do different things with Money, and I don't use
budgeting. I often look into what seem interesting, logic or simple,
even if I don't use them. However budgeting doesn't do it for me.

This is a user group. The people here are not employees of
Microsoft. I know some users are good at using the budgeting, and I
remember reading a lot of things that looked useful for budget
users. You might find some things of interest in previous posts. A
really neat way to find prior postings in this group is to use the
Google Usenet Groups archive.

See http://groups.google.com/advanced_group_search enter words that
you think would be in relevant posts into the "all of the words"
box. Enter microsoft.public.money into the newsgroup box. Consider
selecting Sort By Date.

Thanks for confirming that my Post was actually reviewed...I went to the site
you indicated...unfortunately this forum probably continues to be my best
source as I am working with Microsoft Money Deluxe and Business 2002...

Would you be willing to give me any insights regarding my previous Posts
["Actual" values in Budget, 05-10-2006/Budget, 05-11-2006] that generated no
response, i.e. I'm not asking for answers now, but rather do my questions not
make sense...am I not giving the correct information to allow someone to even
assist me?

Thanks for the initial comeback...

Can anyone (please) suggest another form of support for Money other than this
forum? I have posted two inquiries this week without response.

I see the "regulars"/MVP's answering posts all around my issues, but I must
be asking the wrong questions or presenting them incorrectly...at any rate I
am seeking acknowledgment/assistance.

Thanks,
