The .MNY file usually lives in your 'My Documents' folder or the Microsoft
Money directory under C:\Program Files

It would be great is the MNY file that you are speaking about would be
visible in the Money directories. Searching for *.MNY only brings back a
sample program. I also do not see any files that are current as far as
modified date. Do you know what folder or file name which stores the data?
Thanks in advance for your help.

That really is not a good idea. You lose so much information. All that needs
to be done is copy the .mny file across to the new PC.

Why bother? Just locate your *.mny file and copy it to the new computer.
Assuming you reinstall M2000 on the new computer, or have a new version,
just open the file from within Money. The program will recognize and
convert it.

Some users report problems going from very older versions (I'd call 2000
very older) to 2006. Suggestions for resolution include getting a newer but
not current version from eBay for cheap, converting with that program, then
converting the resulting file with the current version.

QIF export/import is an option but, if you don't even know that you can
simply move the *.mny file, completely rebuilding from scratch could be an
overwhelming task. If you do that, though, the resulting file will be much
smaller and, initially, faster. You'll lose some data in the process.
Whether you consider the losses critical is for you to decide.

I would consider the QIF technique for moving a database for all versions.

All of the same issues would be relevant to M02. You can use a
floppy-spanning Money Backup for moving the data file, but many people have
better luck just moving the original data file and not messing with Money
Backup/Restore.

Would any of Andy's questions apply to MNY 2002.
I am thinking of upgrading my system and I use MNY 2002 but I don't use the
internet for any MNY tasks. It's use is for bookkeeping checking and
savings, credit cards. Don't need money to access my bank. I back up to hard
disk and a 120 meg floppy which I may have to have it installed in the new
system. regular floppies just aren't big enough to store a backup of MNY .

You will have to reinstall the application from the original CD. Copy over
the .MNY data file(s) using a network, CD, or USB flash drive. Some settings
will be lost in the new installation--printer settings for check alignment
come to mind immediately--but some are stored in the data file. Best bet is
to open both Options|Settings and compare what's on the tabs.

One issue you may have: Internet Update to Money may or may not be available
for M2k anymore. I can't say. You may or may not be current on the old
machine. You may or may not be able to get "current" with the updates on the
new side. Copy down the Help|About version number from the old installation
and check it once you reinstall on the new machine. Try an Internet Update
if they don't match and the new installation is a lower number.

Default Money 2000 move

Hi Everyone,

I am using Money 2000. I just bought a new computer and today I would like
to transfer all my data.

What is the best way to do this with MS Money 2000 so I don't loose any of
the data or application setting?

Many thanks,

Anguel
