If you are very familiar with Money, consider rebuilding your file almost
from scratch. Export all accounts, then reimport to a new file as a group
using Ctrl-Click. There is significant work involved in doing this. You
lose loan accounts, for example, and have to rebuild them. You can't
recreate loan accounts from payment 1 if it's in the past, unless you set
the date on your computer back, start Money and create the account, then
change the computer date and restart Money.

This is a lot of work and includes the potential to introduce data errors.
That said, if you're familiar enough with Money and comfortable using
computers, Money's speed improves __DRAMATICALLY__. I don't know why,
except that the file size drops probably due to loss of ancient historical
information that you don't need. Also, if there were corrupt records,
they're gone, at least initially.

I did what I'm recommending because I had some problems connecting online.
Refreshing the file in that way resolved the problems, where the file
repair utility did not.

I never had a severe noticable CPU problem. There is a "customize
content or layout" widget on the M06 home page. If elsewhere, Help
might direct you to it.

I think the CPU problem is file size related. The process on demand
design mentality forces the entire file to be in memory. I use 4
separate files dividing data by people. The files are 8,7,6 and 4
meg,

I just started having problems with Money 2005. Slow performance and freezing
up..taking minutes (literally) to go from one screen or link to the next.
Task Manager shows 100% CPU usage. How can I "pare" it down as you did? BTW,
I installed a trial version of 2006 and encountered the same problem. Rand
Scan Disk and Disk Defrag along with all the toold from Microsft Safety
Center Live Scan with no virus or spyware problems.Money is the only program
on my PC that's running slow.
Thanks.

Interesting. I pared mine to Favorite Accounts and Investment Summary
as I hated the busy cluttered screen.

Don't start it.

Seriously, this is what Money does. You might be able to play some games
like the "what's on my Money home page" game that may have some effects on
the margins. Basically, Money is, shall we say, CPU intensive.

A huge .mny data file?

Do you have a graphic system resource display eg like 2K Task Manager

Memory and thus if the bottleneck is one of those.

My biggest file is 8meg, 3yrs of data, and I have 1/2 your compute
muscle and no bottleneck except the piggy hit on my dialup connection.

Default CPU Resources

What can be done to stop Money from consuming CPU Resources?
Every time that I run Money 2006, I have difficulties running any other
programs. I am running a Athalon XP 3400 processor with 2GB of ram. I had a
similar problem with Money2005 also.
