| You might also be able to find somebody with a copy of M04 Deluxe that you could borrow just long enough to work on the file and fix it. | Well, that kinda figures. I don't have Money Standard, so I can't actually prove it, but it does seem like Money design. Collect some data in Money Standard when creating accounts that the account doesn't actually need and that is needed in a feature that isn't provided in Money Standard and then, since the UI to change it is in the feature that isn't actually in Money Standard, make it impossible to change. My thinking would be to leave it alone--and use one of her names as an owner for your account--until someday, maybe, you upgrade to a version/edition of Money where the data is not only used but exposed to be changed. Until then, since the data is most likely not used anywhere that matters in Standard, it can't matter how you use it, can it? You could try this: in a COPY of your file, delete retirement accounts until you can create an account with the name you want. Then add back in the accounts you had to delete. Yuck. But it might work. (FWIW, I also wouldn't be entirely shocked if there is no way to get there and the second name, once created in a file, cannot be deleted from that file, no matter how many accounts you delete. That's why I stressed working in a COPY.) "Bill F." <willfeldman[at]comcast.net> wrote in message news:XbqdnTl2MvADYMnZnZ2dnUVZ_vOdnZ2d[at]comcast.com... - quote - > Thank you all for trying to help. | Thank you all for trying to help. I should have mentioned that I'm using the "04 Standard Edition" When I click on the planner menu at the top the only thing that resembles Lifetime planner is Planning Priorities which then takes me to either "Plan for Retirement" or "work on estate planning". When I click on Plan for retirement, there is a line near the top of that screen labeled: "........working through Money's lifetime planner", but won't let me click on that. All the other stuff on that screen doesn't let me change the info. I'm looking for! If in fact it's not available on standard, then I guess I could perhaps try deleting my wife's 403b account. Then carefully re-enter it & all it's investments-not many(watching not to dup.her name). Then perhaps it would let me enter my 401k account?? Otherwise I could just set-up mine using her name. Thanks again. "Dick Watson" <littlegreengecko[at]mind-enufalready-spring.com> wrote in message news:OIbdO0GbGHA.1192[at]TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... - quote - > Indeed. | Indeed. I suspected that LP was where that would show up. Bill F., as Chris points put, you can edit all of this information that you HAD TO SUPPLY when setting up the account--as though it was an essential part of an account--over in Lifetime Planner. You can, apparently, even change association of the account to a partner/spouse in LP. That should get you there. If you revise the names in the 'About You' screen in the Lifetime Planner,> exposed for changes or display or whatever. Or even to find out where > this information, once collected, is used. I failed. Who knows where this > stuff is exposed? it revises the names available to edit as 'Account Owner' in 'Savings & Investments'. In the About You screen, you can also create dependents. Those dependent names are exposed when creating Education IRA or similar accounts. Is that what you're looking for? M06. |

This all happens despite the fact that Money has > my name & my wife's correctly recorded under "personal information". Does > anyone have a fix? anyway. So I tried to setup a 401k account in one of my M04 test files. I got to the who's it belong to dialog and the list was empty and I couldn't leave it empty. So I cancelled and went and added personal information for a bogus me and a bogus spouse. Back into create an account, retirement, 401k. The names I just added don't show up. So, several stabs at this later, I conclude the Setup Accounts|Update personal information names have nothing to do with the Who does a 401k account belong to names. This seems oddly dumb, but not offscale for the Money team. So, I tried typing in just any old name and clicking next. I get a dialog about who I am adding to a plan, wanting a first name and a date of birth and with a single radio button enabled choice of Me or my partner. So then I went in again and added another. This time I picked another bogus name. Then I tried to setup a third account with a third bogus name. No joy. Apparently you can only define two names down this path. I conclude you likely have already answered this question twice with two variants of your wife's name and now you are toast. So then I went off trying to figure out where this list of two names is exposed for changes or display or whatever. Or even to find out where this informaiton, once collected, is used. I failed. Who knows where this stuff is exposed? I will add this to my list of essentially write only data in Money. And once it's written, you can't see it again and you can't modify it. It's pathetic how much of this there is in Money, but there you have it. Perhaps you might want to start a new Money data file and get this right in the new file and then move all of the read/write data (no loan accounts, no personal informaiton, not 401k account ownership info, no account details, no category details, no classiifcation details, etc.) from the old file to the new file. I'd bet that's th recommendation you'd get from Microsoft Money Support. I also coclude that it probably doesn't matter much what you pick. Say all the accounts are your wife's by first name or by first and last name regardless of the truth. The worst thing that will happen is you'll find some place Money actually uses this information at some point in the future when it refuses to let you enter something or goofs up something like (and this is my bet for the sink of this data) Lifetime Planner. - quote - > Also, the help menu no longer works....guess '04 is no
I don't think they've done anything to disable the in-application "on-line"> longer supported? help. Perhaps you have another issue? Sometimes deleting temporary Internet files from Internet Options retores Money help to sanity. - quote - > I bought '06 but never loaded it since I'm still running
I didn't test, but I'd bet this is no more exposed or update-able in M06> Windows98. than M04. |

| I'm currently running MS Money2004. Suddenly, after many years I went to setup a new 401k account for me. But,when the wizzard requires me to enter who the account belongs to, that drop down menu only gives me the choice of either my wifes first name, or her first & last name. When I manually type in my name & press enter I get an error message that only a max. of 2 names can be accepted by Money! This all happens despite the fact that Money has my name & my wife's correctly recorded under "personal information". Does anyone have a fix? Also, the help menu no longer works....guess '04 is no longer supported? I bought '06 but never loaded it since I'm still running Windows98. Bill F. |
