| Sorry for the confusion, let me try and explain as clear as I can: * I had a PC that was using Money 2005 (not sure what version) that crashed on me. I made a backup file before the crash that I can now use to get that data onto another PC * I have another PC that is working fine. This PC was running an older version of Money (Money 2003 maybe?). I upgraded that older Money version to Money 2005 so now this PC is running the same Money 2005 as the system that crashed. * After upgrading to Money 2005 on this system, I then thought it would be easier to set up the same account names as I had prior to the crash (and the accounts that would be on the backup file) and try to import that back up file that I created prior to the crash into this new upgraded Money 2005. Now I see you are suggesting not to import so that is where the problem came in. As I was writing this, I tried to restore by opening the back up file and was able to create a new Money 2005 file with everything I had prior to the crash !!! I didn't know how to use that backup file I saved prior to the crash as like I said, I was trying to import it into a Money 2005 file rather than restore the backup to a new file. Thanks for the help !!!!!!!!!!!!!. | Don't import Money backups. Restore them. You can't import a backup file. That's just not how the program works. I'm very confused by your situation and your path to where you are now. How many systems are involved here? The backup you are trying to "import" (I hope you mean restore) into the older PC that was using an older version of Money was an M05 .1105 backup? But you have upgraded that older system to an M05 system? Did you then update it to the .1105 M05? Why did you create the same accounts with the same names on this system? (In a new data file, I'm assuming.) Restore restores everything to a new file. It does not merge files. Open the version of Money you want to use to restore the files. It matters not what file Money is using when you open it. Verify in Help|About that it is version .1105. Go to File|Restore. Pick the .MBF file you want to restore from. If necessary, tell it to put the restored file in your My Documents folder. Don't try to create a file to "import" this stuff into. Don't try to use File|Import. | The file is a Microsoft Money Back Up file (.mbf I think) Before the crash, I would back up from time to time. The most recent back up file is what I am trying to use to import into my older PC that was using an older version of Money. I have upgraded to Money 2005 on that system so I would be able to import the Money 2005 files back into it. Once I upgraded the older version of Money to Money 2005, I created the same accounts (with the same names) as what was on the system that crashed (and what would be on the backed up files). I'm now trying to import the "Microsoft Money Back Up File" into this Money 2005 program (running on the current system) so my Money 2005 files will be what they were before the crash. | IF file is an .MBF (Money Backup File) type, Import is NOT what you want to do. Are you trying to restore it to a place that actually exists??? I note that you are already at .1105. This is mandatory. | Thanks for the quick reply Cal, My version currently shows: 14.0.50.1105 (Microsoft Money 2005 Standard OEM Edition) Does this mean I should move onto another step (as I already have the version your mentioned upgrading to)? If so, what would be the next step? Thanks again. | My system crashed a couple weeks ago and I'm trying to load my Money 2005 files that I backed up prior to the crash. The system I am trying to use was running an older version of Money, but I upgraded to Money 2005 so it would be easier to import the Money 2005 files. So now the system I'm trying to import this data back into and the system I was able to back up from were/is using the same Money 2005 version. I've tried to import the data back into Money 2005 two ways (as I'm no expert to this stuff) and haven't been able to accomplish this. 1.) I tried to use the import option under the file tab, but Money 2005 didn't recognize my back up file. 2.) I then tried to use the restore back up option under the file tab. This time Money 2005 was able to locate my back up file, but when I get to the part to actually restore the file I get a pop error message that reads: " The path name is invalid. Please use a valid path name." How can I import my backup file back into Money 2005? Thanks in advance!!! |
