Default Re: Archiving/backup of old data

I would create a copy of the mny file using a different file name eg
pre2004.mny Next open pre2004 and start deleting things you added
after Dec31, 2003 -- you are manufacturing an archival file.

You will also want to preserve your current complete file. Obviously.
Then you can delete all the old things you no longer want in your
current file.

Archiving does not actually create the archive file as a subset. It's a
complete copy. The only file it actually messes with is the current copy.

Archiving doesn't work all that well, doesn't work the way most people
expect it to, and is mostly just a good way to mess up a Money data file.
Many of us never mess with it.

I have full data in my file going back to March of 1993.

Most of us don't. My Money file goes back to Money 95.

Have a look at http://umpmfaq.info/faq.html#Q184 plus other questions in the
same area.

Default Archiving/backup of old data

I have 6 years of data in my msmoney file. I just did an archive of all my
data prior to 1 Jan 2004. MSMoney created archive file with old plus also
some data after 1 Jan 2004 (including some transactions from yesterday!).
How do I get MSMoney to create an archive/backup of only data prior to 1
Jan 2004? What techniques do you folks use?
