| Thanks Dick, that did the trick, I'm back in business. Thanks to you as well Cal, I truely appreciate your assistance. Now, if I could just figure out why MM won't download my recent 'Buy' transactions automatically when I do an Update, but that's for another thread after I read some of the other similar posts already addressing the issue. Thanks again to the both of you. Jim "Dick Watson" wrote: - quote - > Put a Dividend transaction in some Investment Account for investment name > FFFFX. | Put a Dividend transaction in some Investment Account for investment name FFFFX. This will tell you what name it is and bring the "lost" investment back from the ether. Then you can go to Investment Details for this investment. Then you can put something bogus in for the symbol or just delete the symbol entirely from the "lost" investment. Then you can reuse the symbol on the investment you want it on. Then you can delete the transaction. There is no need to uninstall and reinstall, since that symbol info> I'm afraid I’ve messed it up good at this point. File-> New-> NewFile would be as bad as it gets. However File-> Restore to a point before you did your experiment may work. Money 2006 keeps backups by default. Ideally you would have increase the number of backups far enough. Even so, there is other hope. In a "watch" (pretend) account, you could record a Buy of each investment using the drop-down list. Then look at the details of each to see if any have the symbol you are looking for. Then just blank the symbol, and you have freed it up for the proper investment. |

| Hey Cal, thanks for the quick response. I'm afraid I’ve messed it up good at this point. What I am disappointed with regarding MM is how difficult it is to correct what are most certainly very common user mistakes. At the moment, there's no symbol specified on the Investment Details screen, and I can no longer enter the correct symbol because I get the dreaded ‘FFFFX is already being used as a name or symbol for another investment’ when I enter it and click [Find Symbol]. Before knowing better, I created the investment twice when I was fighting with MM because it wouldn’t recognize or locate the fund when entering the symbol FFFFX on the Investment Details screen and clicking [Find Symbol], would just get ‘No matching fund names were found’. I can’t remember exactly what I did, but I seem to recall doing something where I told MM the symbol was for some random fund (just to see what the application would do when selecting something on whatever screen I was on at the time). I suspect now, on the Port. Manager screen, this is where the ‘Last Price’ and ‘Change’ values are being pulled from during an AutoUpdate or something. I have a feeling it’s going to be easier to uninstall and reinstall at this point, though I dread having to do so since I have a lot of other work already in MM. Thanks for any suggestions. | Is there a way of deleting a Symbol association in MM 2006 Premium? What I mean is, MM doesn't seem to recognize that FFFFX is the symbol for Fidelity Freedom 2040 fund. In my frustration in trying to figure out why MM wouldn’t recognize the symbols fund, I think I somehow accidentally associated the Symbol to an incorrect fund, thoough I have no idea how it happened. Now, whenever adding an investment to an account and selecting the fund named 'Fidelity Freedom 2040' from the 'Investment' dropdown, MM shows the wrong 'Last Price' and 'Change' since it thinks FFFFX is some other fund and not the Fidelity Freedom 2040 fund. Thanks in advance. Jim |
