| Is this thread still open? If so, it would be nice if the multiple users at the same institution (e.g. Vanguard) problem would be fixed... apparently, Money confuses accounts and retrieves statements from the wrong one when multiple accounts at Vanguard are setup. | I would like an interface to enter stock option information in a single table format with columns for all dates, FMV, Federal taxes, State Taxes, and FICA paid at time of exercise, etc. that are required to complete tax forms eventually. Quickens interface is a very awkward multi step process for each option and from what I read Money's is not any better? As an example these are the column headings I use in excel to track my options: Grant ID Date Shares Price Split#1Shares Split#1Price Split#2Shares Split#2Price Split#nShares Split#nPrice Shares Price Exercise by Date VestYrs Current Value Option Exercised date Certificate Date Certificate # # shares Exercised Option Price Option Cost FMV Bargain Element Fedral W/H State W/H FICA W/H Total W/H DateSold # shares Sold $ price Sold Additional Sales costs "Vadim Rapp" wrote: - quote - > Hello, > please respond to this thread with the annoying things you would like fixed > in Money. I don't have NQ stock options, but my wife does participate in an ESPP in which we make NQ sales. We ditch the stock as soon as it's granted. I simply record the FMV at grant date in the memo, then record a $0 journal entry (split) in the cash account moving the proceeds from capital gains to regular income. It's not elegant but it doesn't happen very often. That makes it not a hassle for me. -- Chris Cowles Gainesville, FL |

| Does any version of MS Money have a decent user interface for entering NQ stock options and Federal, State, and FICA taxes paid at the time the options were exercised? The interface on Quicken Premier for entering NQ stock options and Federal, State, and FICA taxes paid on each option could not implimented any worse then it is. I found the interface on Quicken Premier very awkward to enter Federal, State, and FICA taxes for 30 or so individual stock options. I find it hard to believe that Quicken Premier does not have a more sophisticated interface to enter taxes paid when NQ stock options are exercised! Are you sure there isn’t a better way to make these entries into Quicken? I am very disappointed if this is how cobbled together the user interface is meant to be. QUICKENS RESPONSE TO MY NQ STOCK OPTION QUESTION: Where / how do I enter taxes paid (Federal, State, and FICA) on each exercised NQ stock option? Thank you for contacting . Mark, what I understand is that you want to enter the tax paid transaction in Quicken. To do it you need to create particular category in Quicken and assign particular tax line to that transactions and use that category while entering transaction. Please do the following steps to do it in Quicken:- 1) Open Quicken. 2) Go to edit---------> category list. 3) Create new category there. 4) While creating new category select the option "tax related" and assign tax line to the category. 5) Now open the investment account in which you want to enter the transactions, click on "enter transactions". 6) In the "enter transactions" option select the option "other cash transactions". 7) Select the appropriate category there. This procedure seams very awkward to enter Federal, State, and FICA taxes for 30 or so individual stock options. I find it hard to believe that Quicken Premier does not have a more sophisticated interface to enter taxes paid when NQ stock options are exercised! Are you sure there isn’t a better way to make these entries into Quicken? I am very disappointed if this is how cobbled together the Quicken user interface is meant to be. Thank you for contacting Quicken Customer Care. Mark, I can understand your concern but this is that only option to enter the type of transaction you want to enter in the Quicken. I really apologize for the inconvenience occurred to you due to this limitation of the Quicken. | I've done 67 in the past year. I'm working off a large stock of 3-per Laser Wallet stock. We don't get free checks, but we buy--or bought--them cheap. (http://checksunlimited.com IIRC.) Each year we use fewer checks. Our FCU just started a free Bill Pay service. Believe it or not, I signed up. (No Money integration, not to worry on that score.) I'm adding the utilities that don't take Discover first. That'll lop off another 18 or so a year all by itself. Reducing the number of checks printed has positive feedback--at least with the 3-per Laser Wallet stock. Running the 2nd and 3rd through the printer multiple times causes problems with my printer so I try to gang the checks up and get at least the first two at a time. With only 5 or so per month, that gets very hard to do. So more and more magazine renewals, et al., get the Discover number if they take it. That rapidly will just leave things like birthday and xmas checks for the kids. (They don't take Discover.) At some point it's not even worth messing around with printing them. (Maybe I'm past that point but you all know I'm a hardhead.) If I ever buy checks again, I'll probably buy the singles to avoid the print3 hassle. OTOH, at the declining rate of use, maybe why bother? The declining rate of use also suggests that the stock that's left may last till we next change banks. Haven't done THAT in a couple of decades... If you wanted to cancel the "Close" and continue using Money, clicking the "X" on the title bar of the "Back Up When Money Closes" window closes Money as if you chose "Postpone" Clicking the "X" should just close the window not the program. | 1. M2006 Deluxe - I want to use IE for internet browsing not Money. So I have "use default browser" selected, yet when I right-click on a fund in my portfolio and select "quote detail", it goes to MSN http://moneycentral.msn.com/scripts/...ymbol=US:MUHLX inside Money - it does not use separate IE window as it did in prior years. ( below) 2. Also, my " update price" example from yesterday ... the quote server is slow again today. Using M2004 I have updated all my prices ( using method I showed yesterday) and can see my daily gain. Using M2006, all I see is "unch" in the price column so I would have no idea how I did today. | In M2006 I can no longer select Portfolio Mahager as my homepage. Get rid of the SETTINGS page. Go back to OPTIONS and give me the option for hompage : " CHOOSE CURRENT PAGE " so that I can login and be on the page that I want to be on . So from Portfolio Mgr page I would click on Tools - Options - set homepage - Use Current ( like in IE). And tell the Money folks ( I'm not kidding) that the more I use M2006 the more I like M2004 and M2001 .
