| This is a very important issue for me and I have elected to use Quicken as my financial software. I have been very patient with Msoft to reslove this issue for the past 6 months. Now I have stoped useing Money all together. There are other issues as well. They simply seem more interested at upgradeing me to newer versions than solve simple problems on older versions. Quicken has its problems as well, but data reliability, timeliness is not one of them. Fortunately for me, I have been running both Money and Quicken together for some time. I've read that it's not MSN - its Yodlee - a company that MS pays to> > Is anyone else having the problem or is it just me? > I have the same problem, too. I believe Money gets the quotes > from MSN Money site. One thing my theory could not explain > is that once the date along with the quote is right,Money seems > to be able to get the correct price for those missing days. > SomeOne provide the update service. Even though the "Today's change" column doesn't work, your stock/fund value often does change onscreen as well as the grand total. So if MSFT was $26 a share yesterday and today you manually update to be $27, if you have 100 shares you're total does change from $2600 to $2700 but the "daily change" will show as ZERO (since it wasn't updated by their server - Cal, THAT's what I " don't get"). When the Money updates don't work at all , I get them at finance.yahoo.com manually. Only time that they are " both bad " is when a fund goes ex-div ( or fund house has problem) These past few days, I've just updated manually. Also note - for "regular updaters" - before you update your mutual fund online, sort them by "% change" - now update. Most often even when the server is hosed it will update the "$ change" and "% change" but not "do the math" so it doesn't "finalize the price". You can see that by now sorting again by " % change" - they'll rearrange. Example when updating IS working OK...if a fund was $10 two days ago and yesterday it was $11, prior to updating today you'd see "$change = $1", and "% change" = 10%. Now update and if the 2 columns change, the server HAS the quotes but isn't "doing the math". If you want to, you can " do the math" If that same fund fund was $11 and now it's shows a change of " -0.25 ", then the price is 10.75. See - that column WAS $1 , now it's -0.25 where did that come from - the server - but the application on the server that " does the math" is hosed. BTW , my opinion is that - what's not working is the part where the server " Fetches our info from our PC". I don't know how the math gets done but if it is NOT done locally, doesn't it only make sense that it's done remotely ? So this remote server needs to know exactly how much each of us has invested - and where . Perhaps a network issue preventing them fetching our info. I'm open to other opinions but that's the only way that I can see it working as it does. It must retrieve " how many shares of x" times " price of x" and then send us the results. Why must that info be transmitted anywhere ?? - let my PC do the math. (Cal, THAT's the part that concerns me - its not 2006 - it's "Orwell's 1984") Someone from the Money group should invite someone from the Excel group over for a beer ( or maybe a Jolt Cola) and have him explain to them how to multiply : x times y = z , (take the difference between yesterday and today's price) and post those results in the " change" column. If you check your fund's price there, you can see the price as well as a dimmed line such as: Last NAV update 04/17/06 06:01 PM ET Money take this as the date for the price. One thing my theory could not explain is that once the date along with the quote is right, Money seems to be able to get the correct price for those missing days. Does MSN Money provide historical prices, as Yahoo! does? Sadly, the "Feedback" link at the bottom of the page does not give the user a chance to write anything. It merely pop up a window with a few voting check box to rate the site. So check the quote online first. If that is still screwed up, don't hope too much for Money getting the stuff right. I can think of one instance where doing it this way makes sense. If> change " column get updated. there is a dividend, it is customary to adjust the price change accordingly. Thus if a stock closed yesterday at $20.00 and closed today at $20.00 but it went ex-dividend today for $0.25, it would be quoted as up by $0.25. That's the convention. There could be some other considerations, but that one comes to mind. - quote - > If I manually update all of my stocks/funds daily ( manually), why can't > Money do the math - this is not rocket science. | Since this is an issue again ... Cal, First of all, thanks for all the help you provide us ( I hope you guys get paid/reimbursed somehow) Then - can you tell me why we have to be online to have the " Today's change " column get updated. If I manually update all of my stocks/funds daily ( manually), why can't Money do the math - this is not rocket science. If I own 100 shares of MSFT stock and yesterday it was 26.00 and today it is 27.00 , why can't MY PC populate that field to display $100 ( 100 shares x $1 gain per share) ? Why do I have to go online to use that column ? | The fact that this happens over and over again is really annoying. I don't want to hate Microsoft. Really, I don't. But they are not helping me. | Cal, Do you know if Microsoft is aware of the problem? If not, is there anyway to notify them without having to pay. One thing I don't understand is how the net gain/loss in the "Best and Worst Performers" view can be correct but the Market Price is not updated. Obviously Money is connecting somewhere to get the net gain/loss. Do you know if Money uses one source for the net gain/loss and another source for the Market Price. If so, that seems like a weird method of updating. Thanks for your help. | And another thing : for those that DO want to update and see "Today's Change" after the quote server has issues... the next day BEFORE starting Money, change the date on your PC back a day. Open Money - update prices and ( if the server has been fixed) , you'll see that the "Today's change" column works ( since the date of the updated price DOES ( for now) equal today's date). When done - exit and change date back.
