| Yep, now I recall the lamenting how dumb Mny to clobber the previous good hdd backup upon exit. The purpose was to ADD the ability to save more than one backup, and> Money 2002 it would delete the older backups on my flashcard and only keep > the latest. Why would MS remove that very useful option? that is datestamped in the filename. Multiple backups are very good. Many people would do something unwanted, quit Money, and have Money automatically overwrite the only backup. Money does it right if it considers the drive to be a hard/non-removable drive; it will delete the older backups. But on a floppy/removable drive, it uses code that can span volumes if the media fills up. Hence the "D1" in the filename. That code somehow ignores the maximum number field (side-effect bug). Since that bug has a workaround (manually deleting the older files), I assume that it is considered a low priority thing. If the driver for that flash drive told the OS that this was a hard drive, I expect the backup file to not invoke the code that is prepared to span volumes, and that the maximum number would be honored. So while this is irritating, it is still much better than the old single-backup behavior IMHO. |

| Ok, thanks for the input. The only thing I do not understand is when I used Money 2002 it would delete the older backups on my flashcard and only keep the latest. Why would MS remove that very useful option? It's not something that you can fix. Your workaround is to delete> backup as I selected in backup options, but it keeps creating additional > backups when I changed it back to save to my flash card. There must be a way > to fix this behavior? the old backups manually. |

| How about diskette mentality? Picture a diskette with 1.4 meg. You write 1 copy to it (maybe) - compressed. Next copy goes to another diskette or overwrites the previous. Mny predates high density removable media. I really have no answer except the workaround solutions. arthur == On Wed, 12 Apr 2006 12:16:01 -0400, "Jay Ferris" <snowmobilerNOSPAM[at]adelphia.net> wrote: - quote - > Ok, I tried setting the backups to go to my harddrive and it did only keep 1 > backup as I selected in backup options, but it keeps creating additional > backups when I changed it back to save to my flash card. | Ok, I tried setting the backups to go to my harddrive and it did only keep 1 backup as I selected in backup options, but it keeps creating additional backups when I changed it back to save to my flash card. There must be a way to fix this behavior? | I have 1 backup copy set from Options > Backup settings and it works. I had one file set as 2 and that worked fine. Running M2006 too. I have 4 data files. I am not backing up to any non local hdd as I periodically copy files to another computer. You could manually dump the latest mny file to your flashcard and just keep a local backup on the hdd. arthur == On Mon, 10 Apr 2006 20:21:44 -0400, "Jay Ferris" <snowmobilerNOSPAM[at]adelphia.net> wrote: - quote - > I uninstalled Money 2002 and installed money 2006. | I uninstalled Money 2002 and installed money 2006. When money closes I have it set to backup to a flashcard. The problem is that it keeps creating additional backups even though I have it set to only keep the most recent 2 backups. I have tried turning this on and off and even setting it to keep only 1 backup. Any ideas? Thanks |
