| I'd get the number of shares right in the first place. Put the rounding error in the price per share where it will do absolutely no harm. When entering the transaction, set amount, and price, Money will compute number of shares. Delete price, round number of shares to the same three decimal places, then enter the transaction with Money's computed share price. To fix a share balance that's incorrect, use Add Shares/Remove Shares investment activity transactions. There is also the Account Update link at the bottom of the Investment Account|Account Summary page. It lets you enter an exact amount of shares and enters Add/Remove Shares transactions as required to get back in balance. | I am tracking the performance of the investment subaccount of my life insurance policy in MS Money 2006 Premium. My insurer does not support online updates of investment subaccount performance, so I must enter statement data manually. Shares of investments are only reported with 3 decimal places of accuracy on my statements. As a result, in some cases rounding errors in the number of shares purchased and sold accumulate over months so that after a while the total number of shares that I own as reported by Money differs from the number of shares reported by my insurer. How do I adjust the number of shares that I own in Money to match the figure reported on my statements? |
