I have an number of accounts in sterling and one in Euro. This is the
procedure I followed

Add a new account, banking, bank not listed, bank, type name, eg "Euro".
Then enter the balance and from the drop down box where it originally says
British Pound, select Euro. Then click finish.

Dear Rachel,

I find myself a bit at odds with what Marcus has suggested. Your base
currency is what you work in primarlily. If you are in Britain this would
normally be Sterling Pounds, in the US it would be US Dollars. You do not
therefore need to change your Base Currency.

To set up a Euro Account start to work your way through the normal sequence
for "Setting up a New Account". You will be asked towards the end "What is
the currency for this account?". Scroll down the list of possible options
and select Euro. If you do not have an exchange rate input already you will
be asked to enter one. You can also choose whether you want the rate to be
amended from the internet. If you choose not to do this you can simply alter
the rate from time to time by going to Tools > Options > Currency and
entering the rate yourself.

After you have finished entering all the data requested you will end up with
an account denominated in Euro. At the bottom of the account register you
will see the balance in Euro and also the Sterling equivalent at whatever
exchange rate is input at that time. In the List of Accounts you will see
the balance stated in Euro. In the Net Worth statement you will see the
Sterling equivalent at the exchange rate input at that time.

I hope this may "unperplex" you back to being just Rachel!

Thanks Marcus. I still can't seem to get it to work. It is ok for a new
file but to have one account in a file in euros and another in the same file
in sterling just doesn't seem to work - it tries to put everything into euros
in the file. Any further offerings please? still perplexed rachel

Yes, just open another account as normal, and use the base currency as the
Euro when you first set up the account. You can set the rate of exchange
first, then Tools > Internet Updates > Update Now. Check the box that says
"Update.... and exchange rates" and then go.
