My follow-up question is this: How do I automate their entry? I get a dividend every month and I don't see a way to have the investment transactions recur every month. I initially set them up in "Bills & Deposits" because they recur every month and it made sense at the time. Finally, along the same lines, how would one enter capital gains distributions? I don't see any "actions" that would correspond to that in the investment transactions menu. Would that be more appropriately entered as a cash transaction in the cash register of the account? In other words, should capital gains distributions be counted toward a particular investment's performance? Thanks!! CbG |

| I have Money 2006, but I suspect that your version is similar enough. First, make sure you enter all your dividends in the Money account register for your brokerage. Then, use Money's "Reports" menu. Select the report for "investment performance by investment type." Customize it as you wish. As far as I can tell, the resulting report does take both price appreciation and dividends into account. It presents a total return and and annualized return, plus a few other figures. -- David Arnstein | Have fun with your spams: arnstein+usenet[at]pobox.com | http://www.bluesecurity.com |

If dividends are entered right, you should see the Dividend transactions when you click the [+] in front of the investment name. |

Thanks for the reply. Sorry, yes i was looking at the portfolio view. "ROI all dates" appears as the abbreviated column header for "Total Return all dates": i had the columns sized narrowly. Anwyay, the value that is currently being reported is merely the current market value over the initial purchase price. There seem to be other "total return" columns to choose from ... perhaps i have the dividend payouts miscategorized? I have scheduled monthly deposits to capture the payouts, and created a payee named after the fund, and categorized it as investment income, dividends. I realize now that there is no way for money to know how to associate these deposits with the investment entry in the portfolio. Can you tell me how to reclassify these deposits? Or is there another recomended way to handle dividends from stocks or ETFs. Thanks!!!! CbG |

"ROI"? Where are you looking? At the Portfolio? | Has anyone figured out how to show the actual ROI and gain from ETF's that pay monthly dividends? Example: I purchase 100 shares of XYZ at $10.00/each on 01/01/2005 Every month it pays a dividend, say $0.10/share so i get $10/month as cash at the end of 2005, the share price is $15/share and i've made $120 in dividends. The ROI in Money (2004) seems to be based solely on the share price increase, So, is there a way to have it figure in the dividends? Thanks, CbG |
