I would set it up as an asset account. When you receive a payment on the
loan, you would tranfer the amount out and in to your savings/checking
account in that amount. If there is interest received with the payment you
would set a split trans in the receiving account with the a tranfer out of
the asset account and interest income as the other split.

Default New account - Loan

I lent some money to someone. Seems to me that this should be put in as a
Loan account - except there will be no regular payments or interest
charged - for the time being at least. I would like to consider the loan
balance as an asset, and all repayments to me being treated as transfers
from this account to another, rather than income. How would I go about
setting up an account such as this?
