Thank you very much. My son has moved to Delaware but I do know someone I can
ask besides Microsoft.
Thanks again for your information and suggestion

Rhetta,

If you started having this problem after your son bought you the new
computer maybe he set it up so that you are not the administrator. This is
a Windows issue not a Money issue. Perhaps your son can fix it. If you are
not running the computer as the administrator you will continue to have
problems and this should be fixed. Trying to get this type of problem fixed
by calling Microsoft is a waste of time. You need help from someone who can
work on your computer and set it up correctly.

With respect, since you did not know what a USB flash drive was or whether
you even have a USB port on your computer, it is obvious that you are not a
computer person. No problem, computers are Greek to many folks, but you
do need help and you probably should not be attempting to fix these issues
yourself.

Regards and good luck,

Bill Wood

Thanks Mr Watson. I will go to Circuit cCty and check it out. I was
dumbfounded when I found out I didn't have a floppy disk drive. My son bought
the computer for me and set it up so i didn't pay any attention.

My biggest puzzle is why did Momey just suddenly send that message in Money
when I have been storing my info on floppy or CD for 7 years prior to
receiving the message about I was not an adminstrator. I have tried to
communicate with Money or Microsoft about it and have NEVER gotten a
satisfactory answer even after 4 people have responded from Microsoft.

If your computer was made in the last five years, it surely has a USB port.
USB stands for Universal Serial Bus. A "USB memory stick" or "USB flash
drive" or "USB memory" is just a small device that plugs in and looks tot he
system like another storage disk. Since you can plug them in, store some
files on them, and unplug them and put them in your pocket, they are RAPIDLY
replacing floppy--or "microfloppy" disks as the portable storage media of
choice. Here's some more pedagogy:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB_flash_drive. It plugs in one of these:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB_port. (This latter has lots of very techie
stuff, but it also has some pictures.)

Thanks Mr. Wood
I guess that will help me if I find out what a USB memory stick is and find
out if I have a USB port. I am not very experienced or knowledgeable with
computers past the basics.

Just a suggestion. Forget backing up to a CD, that is way too slow and too
much trouble.

Get yourself a few USB memory sticks or thumb drives or whatever they call
them these days. These little gizmos plug into any USB port and are
recognized as a removable drive. You can backup any files you like the USB
stick and you do not need any special permissions or software or folders.

Plus CDs are not very safe for long term backups. They can become corrupted
and not work. USB sticks are more reliable and it is very easy to test your
backups regularly. In fact you can keep your current file on a USB stick
and run it right from the stick. But keep backup copies of your file on
your harddrive and a different USB stick for safety.

For David Zhan
It sounds like your advice would work for me if I understood it. I too keep
getting the message that I need administrator's permission to back up my
Money files to a CD-RW
I have been backing up Money that way for years with no problem but now all
of a sudden I get this message.

How do i set a folder? I don't understand that.

The easiest way to back up to your CD (unfortunately money 2005 won't do it)
is to set your folder that you are backing up to be this -
C:\Documents and Settings\[Username]\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\CD Burning

This is where files are stored when you drag them over to the CD icon.
I've done this for years with my fathers Money files because he has been
over 1 floppy for quite a long time and now it is just easier to burn to a
cd-rw

I hope this helps

Tom, there are some CDRW hdd simulator software for example the
Adaptec Direct CD. This makes applications see a CDRW drive as though
it is hdd. I don't use it so don't know how well it works.

Just a fyi

I believe that may be the problem. I have successfully backed up to a flash
drive; I'll see if I can follow your suggestion for burning to the CD.

Tom,

Are you trying to back up directly to the CD? CD drives are not like a
floppy discs or flash drives because you have to "burn" the file on the CD.
For instance, you can't just copy a file there.

Unless something changed that I'm not aware of (in which case ignore me),
you should back the file up somewhere else (such as your desktop) and then
burn it onto the CD using whatever CD-writing software you have.

Default Backup on CD not permitted

When I attempt to back up to a CD I get an error message to the effect that I
do not have permission to back up to this disk and that I should see the
administrator.
I managed to get two files copied to the CD, but when attempting to test
them, I received a similar message.

This seems to be a Windows management situatiion but I have full privileges
on this computer.

I would appreciate any help you can give.
