| In theory and by fact a cash dividend is a reduction to the net worth of a company. If you give me 100 to invest and at the end of the year I did not make any money such that I still have 100 and give you 10 then I have 90 to invest for you. You still have the 100 investment except that I have 90 and you have 10. Therefore... On ex Dividend date the 100 investment is now worth 90 as 10 will be given back to the owners. Therefore you invested 10 x .90 or 9 dollars as though you had received the 10 cents and purchased additional 90cent stock. I am not saying Mny is correct but it sounds like you may not understand the null effect of dividends. The stock will open down the amount of the dividend on the ex dividend day. And please do not try to quote me the Liberial speak on the matter. arthur == On Mon, 20 Mar 2006 00:20:10 +0000 (UTC), arnstein[at]panix.com (David Arnstein) wrote: - quote - > Now here is my experiment. Now here is my experiment. In Microsoft Money 2006 Premium, I entered two transactions: 1. Buy 100 shares of Phonet, price $1.00/share, on 2005-01-01. 2. Reinvest divideond of Phonet, price $1.00/share, 10 shares, on 2005-12-31 This should be a gain of 10% for the entire year of 2005. I ran a MS Money report titled "Performance by Investment Type." I selected the time period "2005-01-01 to 2005-12-31" The report generated these statistics: Value on 2004-12-31: 0.00 Value on 2005-12-31: 110.00 Cost Basis: 110.00 Realized Gain/Loss: 0.00 Return for Period: 20.00 % Rate of Return: 9.09 Annual % Return: 10.03 This reproduces the bug: The statistic "Return for Period" is exactly double what it should be. I believe that this is a dollar amount, not a percentage figure. Also interesting is that "% Rate of Return" is a completely nonsensical 9.09%. Finally, the "Annual % Return" is almost perfectly correct: 10.03% instead of 10.0%. Thanks to Marcia and Cal for bringing this to my attention. I just switched from Quicken to Money. | This and other nntp groups are shadowed by google groups so any http browser will work not to mention its powerful search. Apology accepted.Don't hold your breath waiting for it to be fixed. Worse bugs than that have existed in Money for multiple versions. That is not to say things don't get fixed. They do, but maybe not the things important to you, or in the order you prefer. I've been using Money for years and am satisfied. I just learn to live with or work around the bugs that affect me. -- Chris Cowles Gainesville, FL |

| First, I do owe a BIG APOLOGY to those on this message board. I was under the impression that this was a Microsoft "Help" board comprised of MS people. I was obviously wrong. It's people helping people. I have spent two months trying to get this issue resolved and I finally got a response from Microsoft. I do not believe the issue will be fixed in Money 2006 but maybe in future releases. Very frustrating. So, here is the response from Microsoft and again, I do apologize as I did not realize this was a message board simply for the use and benefit of MS users. My bad. Also, I tried many times to get onto the server and it was down - making it even harder for me to see if anyone was responding to my many messages. --------------------------- Dear Marcia, Thank you for getting back to me. First, I apologize for the inconvenience the issue has caused. I have consulted my technical lead about this issue and I am sorry to say that at present this issue cannot be resolved. Please be assured that our Product Group is fully aware of the issue, and they are working hard on getting the issue resolved as soon as possible. I appreciate your time and patience on this matter. Also, I have added your email address to my contact list. I will keep you updated if there is any possible resolution. As we are limited to keeping cases open too long without active troubleshooting, for your convenience, I would like to temporarily close this case as Not Resolved. However, if you have any other problems or concerns about Money in the future, please don't hastate to let me know, as it's my pleasure to be of assistance. At the same time, we welcome your additional comments and suggestions about our support processes, products, Support Professionals and how we can improve your support experience, since your satisfaction is critical to us. Please feel free to send any feedback to my manager, Cherry, at v-30chga[at]mssupport.microsoft.com. My manager will get back to you as soon as possible.
