Boy have I had fun with this one.

I am guessing that you, like I had been looking at the properties of a
folder not a file.

OK the green box seems to indicate a null while a open box is not read
only and a check or X is a Read Only indication, which may be applied to
files in the folder. You do have the option to change all the files in that
folder with or without the nested folder's files.

Careful. It took me since my last message to straighten out the mess I
made.

I just joined the newsgroup for exactly the same question. Yes, the
read only indicator does appear as a green box (I also have Windows XP)
however it may have something to do with some other setting like desktop
schemes.

In any case, what I am finding is something is resetting the directory
back to read only. However if I reset the read only off just prior to
saving, it works. Kind of a bother, but I don't think I will be making a
lot of changes.

Now I am trying to figure why it does not want to pick up the address on
some of my customers. I guess I will work on that one.

I think you are saying that in your version of XP, when you use Find
or Windows Explorer, in the Properties, the "Read Only" box switches
from a green-filled box and a white-filled box when you toggle
read-only; there is no check mark? That seems odd to me.

I would use the attrib command in a command window using the "-R"
switch to switch off the read-only attribute of those *.ntd files.
That -R is not case-sensitive.

So in a command window, I would CD to the right directory. That
would be

If your location matched the common location, that would be

I followed these steps precisely. The "read only" box is filled green. When
I click on it, it clears....then I APPLY, but I still can't save an invoice.
When I go back and check the files, they are still filled with green (not a
check mark)

Default Invoice Designer won't save

I tried to turn off the read only box in 14.0, but it didn't help. I went
back to make sure I applied the change, did so several times and each time I
go look at the file, the "read only" box is still highlighted. It won't turn
off.
