I suspect that is the reason for adjusting the basis to reflect the current exchange rate. |

| Just the initial purchase, the average should be the share price plus the commissions divided by the no. of shares. Which to my mind means that the avg cost should remain the same until such time as another transaction is made. Mark (refer other reply to this thread) thought it may be due to exchange rate changes. The base currency is New Zealand dollars (NZ$) , how ever the exchange rate fluctuates daily and there has only been the one change. If money works as the layout seems to suggest, then all the the calculations are done in the market currency (US$) and converted as a separate set of totals. | Is this investment in some other currency than the default currency for the Money file? If so, then the difference may be due to exchange rate changes, since Money does not record historical exchange rates. -Mark "Apteryx" <Apteryx[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:4F8B9527-49B2-4F0B-B771-AAF6D913107F[at]microsoft.com... - quote - > No transactions other than the original purchase. There is not much to average in that case. Does this "average" differ from the amount paid divided by quantity in that one transaction? When you say one transaction, there is no capital gains reinvestment or dividend reinvestment transaction, and for that matter not even a dividend? | No transactions other than the original purchase. Average cost has dropped over $15 per share but only for the one entry. I saw it change while updating share prices. If my broker will agree that he over charged me $15 per share (yeah right) I'm quite happy to left it the way it is :-) "Cal Learner-- MVP" wrote: - quote - > In microsoft.public.money, Apteryx wrote: > > The average cost of one investment in the portfolio changed for no apparent > > reason.
