Thank you all for your response. You were exactly correct. The power supply I
bought seemed to be of a good quality, and was a 350w unit that replaced the
original 250w supply. What I did was to open money, and then open the task
manager and looked at performance. I noticed that each time I worked with a
transaction the CPU usage went to 100%. Wow! So, in digging around I found a
money 2003 disk that came with my son's laptop. I removed money, cleaned the
registry and then loaded 2003 and restored my backup. When I checked the CPU
usage it was much much lower. I am certain the processor was overheating as
you guys suggested. I will now check my fans and all other suggestions made,
but I think we have the problem licked. I really appreciate the help, because
I was toying with another program, but I just like money so well that I
wouldn't be satisfed with using anything else. Thanks for the advice!

Have a system board fan that stopped spinning. Fix was to remove the
little stick-on fan foil cover and oil the fan top bearing with a drop
of sewing machine oil. Fan should now spin. Set aside and repeat.
Repeat again. Cleanup excess with tissue or paper towel. Use drops
of glue to stick on the fan foil cover.

I think you are correct. What people do not know is that not all
similar total wattage PS are equal. One may lack low voltage current
for the CPU. On some systems the BIOS can be set for the action to
take when overheating is sensed.

Adding a case fan might help. Test by removing both side covers and
if that fixes the problem then a case fan is indicated.

It could also be CPU thermal shutdown. Possible causes related to the P/S
change out include catching a cable in a fan, getting cables rearranged in
the air path through the computer--reducing airflow, freeing up a dust bunny
that got caught in a fan, etc. It could also be a sign that a fan--CPU
included--is on the verge of dying or already has died.

What happens if you leave the computer in windows with Money not
running? Try turning off money/money express.

My inclination is it isn't money but a hardware/Windows problem.

Does it reboot in any other programs? (IE, OE, office?)

Finally have you tried running Norton Utilities?

That's a great data point and here's why: no application uses continual CPU
use like Money. Continual CPU use implies highest power consumption. Highest
power consumption implies highest heat and max strain on the power supply.
If this drives the power supply to overcurrent/thermal shutdown, it will
behave EXACTLY as you describe. Are you sure you bought a quality power
supply of enough (> = what it was replacing) capacity?

Well, actually it is windows XP home. The only thing that changed was that my
power supply went bad and I had to replace it. This started right after that.
Thinking that the sudden stop from the power supply corrupted some files, I
removed and reinstalled the program. It was fine for a while, but now has
started doing this again. I have not tried with sample.mny, but I notice that
once the rebooting starts, if I try and use the program the interval between
reboots gets shorter and shorter. It is almost as if the system overheats and
shuts down. The whole process looks like someone hit the reset button. There
is no blue screen, error message or anything. The monitor goes black and the
startup begins. As I said, this only happens with money. No other application
causes this.

Thanks for the response...

Cool! What operating system? (I'm betting Win95/98/ME...) Has it always done
this or did it just start? If the latter, what recently changed? What
happens if you open the Sample.MNY sample data file and just let it sit
there for 20 minutes?

Default Computer reboot

I am having trouble with money 2001. After it runs for about 20 minutes, the
PC begins to spontaneously reboot, and gets worse as time goes on. If I let
the PC sit idle for a while, I can get another 20 minutes out of the program.
This is the only program causing this.
