Almost. The information is not lost. But yes, that old buy of 145 shares would show 290 shares after the split. - quote - > "Cal Learner-- MVP" wrote: > > In microsoft.public.money, Natasha wrote: > > > > I have many investments with stock splits. | By this answer I am understanding that the current status of my investments will be accurate but if I want to report on stocks that have incurred a split I will no longer be able to retrieve historical information accurate pre-split. I will have lost the info that I originally bought 145 shares as that will have been altered. Is that what you meant? What can I do to > correct this? pre-date the split. The total for a lot of stock should not change, but the price-per-share and Quantity adjust. Usually this is what you should want, but it even does this, even in cases where you wish it would not. And tho the price-per-share for both 12/31/04 and 12/31/05 will show low, the dollar values and percent gain of your holdings should be correct. |

| I have many investments with stock splits. For example I bought 145 shares of Staples on 3/15/04 for 26.0321. I sold 70 Shares on 4/4/05. The stock split on 4/18/05 with 3 for 2 shares. The stock split feature worked to correctly give the 37.5 shares but it alters the share quanitites as well as the previous stock prices. What was 145 shares became 217.5 and the 70 shares became 105. When I try to run a performance report that gives the value of the stock on 12/31/04 compared to 12/31/05 the value is too low on 12/31/04. The cost basis of the stock is also incorrect. What can I do to correct this? |
