I do the same with the intent of the cash total being accurate. I use it for
recording scheduled buys in my 403b. That way the cash account is always
accurate. When I download the investment transactions, the quantities of the
purchase transactions get updated accurately.

I put in a guess and then fix it when I enter it into the register or get a
statement or see it online. At least that's what I don the M06 trial system.
My prime system is still M04.

Mind-numbingly dumb design, no?

I just transfer the amount to the cash part of the investment account, which
gets it out of my cash flow. Then, once a month, sometime after the purchase
date, I put the 'buy investment' transaction in manually.

Default Recurring Investment Purchase Setup

I automatically purchase $1000 of XYZ stock monthly at the available
price on the day of purchase. In setting up a recurring investment purchase
in Money2006 it is required to enter the quantity purchased AND the amount
paid. If I knew the future price of the stock I could enter the quantity if
I wasn't in jail for having insider information.

My question to fellow users, what workarounds are people using to
overcome this poor Money2006 design problem? Pre Money2006, the quantity
field was not a required field for the creation of a new recurring
investment purchase.
