| I do what I think you are asking about by setting up what I call a "savings" account. I transfer money from my checking account to my savings account as necessary. Then when its time to balance the checking account I transfer the balance to the checking account. I call this transfer "memo transfer to balance". I balance the savings account as normal. The savings account always has a zero starting and ending balance with all my transfers as transactions. After I balance my checking account, I transfer the balance back to the savings account. I call this transfer "Restart savings account". It's worked for the last several years for me. -- Jared3 "JoeMoney" wrote: - quote - > In my (long term) savings account, I want to specifically put money aside for > different "things" (e.g. christmas gifts, new car, TV, vacation, etc). > Is it possible to do this? | Money doesn't support subaccounts/cookie jar accounting. Some of us think that is to its credit. Others would like to see it implemented. See http://umpmfaq.info/faqdb.php?q=112 for one take on subaccounts. | In my (long term) savings account, I want to specifically put money aside for different "things" (e.g. christmas gifts, new car, TV, vacation, etc). Is it possible to do this? How? I've thought of creating Ghost Accounts - then in Money moving $$ from Savings to a Ghost account for "TV" - but then realized my Bank balance and my Money balance for the savings account would always wrong. (!) Then I've thought of creating new Categories.. but haven't figured it out. Any thoughts.. I think this tool/aspect would be very very useful. I can't think I'm the only one who carves out a savings account like this. thanks |
