Your questions are not silly. It takes a few years to get used to Money.

Bills and Deposits is not a report, it is the section in Money where you
list your scheduled bills and deposits. This list which you must create
forms the basis of your budget. It may be called the Bill Summary in later
versions. I use Money 2002.

Thanks for your responses.

Apologize for the silly questions.

What report reflects Bills and Deposits, or are you using Bill Summary?

Thanks.

Money does not convert items budgeted for intervals greater than one month
to monthly amounts in its standard reports. Such a report might be useful
but it is not available so far. You can see the monthly amounts in the
Income and Expense setup areas for your budget but not in reports. Of
course you can easily figure it out with a calculator or create multi-month
or multi-quarter reports to see what is coming up.

I do not find this to be a defect in Money. I simply look at my budget,
Bills and Deposits and the cash flow reports to make sure I have enough
money in my checking/money market accounts to cover upcoming bills. The
picture I get from these 3 tools is very easy to follow and very accurate.
I have been using Money to track my income and expenses for a long time and
it keeps me on top of our finances very well.

Your other question also has a negative answer. Money does not provide you
with a monthly amount to save to cover your budget, that is your
reponsibility. Money shows you how much you have budgeted for your various
categories, but it is up to you to make sure that you have sufficient funds
in your accounts to cover those expenses when they come due whether it is on
a monthly, quarterly or annual basis.

Rather than look to software to show you how much money to save on a monthly
basis, I recommend that you simply make sure your expenses do not exceed
your income on an annual basis and that you have some cash in a checking
account or money market type account to cover normal monthly fluctuations in
income/expense and you will be fine. Regular savings is a great idea but
you should do that on your own and simply record what you do in Money.

I suppose the related question I'm shooting at is:

How do you set up your budget in such a way that you properly set aside
money for budgeted items, using Money?

Default budget

I never really understood this: why don't items that are budgeted for
time intervals greater than a month only show up at their bill month
and not shown as a monthly expenditure?

In other words, I would like to look a my budget in such a way that I
store money during the year for items that don't come but every few
months to yearly basis.
