If that were the case it would imply that the backup from version 16.0.*.1303 will not restore a backup from a fresh non-updated install. That would parallel the case with Money 2005. I had not heard anybody comment on that. Let us know if you find a solution. I assume IE7 is set to work offline. Ya know, I wonder if Vista itself might need an update. I suggest you contact Microsoft Support from the connected computer (have your serial number from the install from Help-> About as the PID number). See if they have a solution. Here is something that I doubt will help this case, but won't hurt to try. In IE7 Tools-> InternetOptions-> Security Trusted Sites list add this to the list of trusted sites: money:// |

| Cal, I tried your suggestions and unfortunately they didn't work. The solution is simple...I just need to be connected to the internet for 5 minutes! But that's so impossible here in Iraq! I need to figure out a way to validate my password on the computer without the internet. I've searched all over microsoft and can't find a solution. I don't think Microsoft thought about what would happen if someone didn't always have internet connection with the live password. | Hi Cal, thanks for the fast reply. I'm sorry, my post was a little confusing. I'm writing this on a work computer and I can log onto my passport fine from this work computer. The computer I'm having issues with is my personal laptop. I tried the 'SSL 2.0' and it was unchecked. I checked it, and also 3.0 and 4.0 were already checked. I'm going to uninstall money right now and reinstall it like you said, paying attention to the instructions you listed. I won't have internet on my laptop for many months, so I'm pretty worried about this...I hope it works. One other note, when I had a money file (and not a backup file to restore), there was an option to sign in 'offline', which I did and it worked fine for the past 6 weeks I've been here. The backup restore password gives me the option to 'sign into money and access all the online services' (I've tried it and got the same results) and 'I want to sign into Money directly, without access to all the online services'. I would have thought the second option would work the same way my money file worked before. I'm wishing I could have saved my money file, but my partition had many errors and I couldn't save any of the data (I always keep my backup files on a separate SD Card, thankfully). I don't know if that gives you any more ammunition to help. Thank you so much for taking the time to try to help me. I'll let you know how the re-install goes. Take care, Andy "Cal Learner-- MVP" wrote: - quote - > In microsoft.public.money, Andy wrote: > > I'm having a hard time finding the answer to my problem... > > > I'm using MS Money 2007 and most of the time, I have internet, so it's not > > an issue. IE Tools-> InternetOptions-> Advanced. During the install, launch setup by right-clicking the launch icon and choose RunAsAdmistrator. Be sure that your Money and backup files are moved to a spot that you will have full privileges to, such as Documents/MyDocuments. | I'm having a hard time finding the answer to my problem... I'm using MS Money 2007 and most of the time, I have internet, so it's not an issue. I'm deployed in Iraq, and have no internet (except on work computers, which I can't put MS Money on). Today, I reformatted my computer and reinstalled Vista. When I went to restore my latest backup file into Money 07, it asked me for a password and when I entered my passport password, it would say "Sign-in information...as listed above in the subject line. As I said, I can't connect to the internet on my Money laptop, and I can't restore my backup apparently until I do so. I would copy your oldest backups to another folder. We would not> absolutely try that later and get back to you. want you to be overwriting a backup you need. Also, when you tried Sample.mny successfully, note that that file does not have a Passport on it. |

I assume you have tried file repair. Here is one more thing to try (tho it has limited chances of helping): Put a backup onto a FAT-formatted USB flash drive. This will remove ownership information. I would then create a new XP user with Administrator privilege. Switch to that user and start Money with a new blank file (Decline Passport). File-> Restore from that USB flash drive, but do not take the default location. Instead Browse to a spot in the new user's MyDocuments folder. The theory is that if the problem is an IE6 setting, you will get default settings for the new user. If you succeed this way, it would point toward the reason the other did not work. You can delete the new user later, and your regular IE6 settings will not have been changed. Slim hope, but it is easy enough to try. I guess you have already reviewed your backup situation. Note that Money 2006 has the advantage of keeping multiple backups by default. However the default for the "Keep only the ___ most recent backup files" may not be enough for you to have an older backup that is not too old. I set mine to 99, because I have a big drive that is no where near full. I also suggest making the scheduled backups to a USB flash drive perhaps monthly. - quote - > Thanks again, > Monte > "Cal Learner-- MVP" wrote: > > In microsoft.public.money, MBO wrote: > > > > Well, it finally bit me. | Hi Cal, Thanks for your timely response. I'm not running Norton right now, but I've never had problems with it in regards to other programs. It's always been a good citizen on my computer. I did install new software (and thought about that, actually). It was the Microsoft Defender Beta 2. I uninstalled it and am still having this same problem. I went back and reset all of my Internet options as suggested in the knowledgebase article and stepped through all of the other procedures as well. I even uninstalled and reinstalled Money. The Sample.mny file works just fine for updates. The problem appears to be something that is now corrupt in my own My Money.mny file. Thanks again, Monte "Cal Learner-- MVP" wrote: - quote - > In microsoft.public.money, MBO wrote: > > Well, it finally bit me. I have Money 2006 Premium. | Well, it finally bit me. I have Money 2006 Premium. All has been working great for online updates for months. Suddenly, two days ago, this message appeared, and I am locked out of doing any online updates to the current record/file. I have tried all 8 of Microsoft's suggested fixes.
