"Credit Card Payment: xxx" listed under 'special' categories is simply a
transfer in disguise.

I don't even post them as payments but as transfers from my checking account
to cc account.

Just to clarify your intent to the OP, change each of the Credit Card
Payment/Transfer transactions.

And be sure to go to Advanced Register.

Just to clarify your intent to the OP, change each of the CREDIT CARD
PAYMENT transactions.

Also, does this not assume use of advanced register? I never used the basic
setting, so don't know.

Yes. Use "transfer:xxx" or "credit card payment:xxx." They can be found in
the "Special" categories at the end of the category list. Do not use the
"credit card/transfer" "Expense" category.

1. Change each of those transactions to the SPECIAL category (bottom
of the list) Transfer, with the Subcategory being the other account.

2. Delete that EXPENSE "Credit Card Payments/Transfers" category so
you do not use it later.

Default Credit Card Payments

I have a question that I hope someone can answer...

I put almost all expenses every month to a credit card then every
payday I pay off the balance due. I put each of these charges into MS
Money under the Credit Card account and put them in groups (clothing,
food, etc) as appropriate. Then I pay the credit card and it is put
into MS Money as a "credit card payment/transfer"

This is all fine, except when you go look at the "reports/spending by
catagory" it is showing that my largest expense is "Credit Card
Payments/Transfers" This is not really an expense so I do not want it
to show up like that. Am I entering something wrong?
