I was going to recommend that as that is the official way of doing what you
want, but it has lots of disadvantages. It will cancel all of you scheduled
bill pays. It will also change to "Write Check" all of your future
scheduled bills that were set up for Apay or Epay. Plus when you
reestablish your online services and download again you will end up with
duplicate transactions that you need to mark as VOID instead of deleting or
they will reappear on your next download. That's why I suggested the
workaround I discovered.

You cannot change the name of on line account or Payee. I just did an
experiment and think that I have a suitable workaround for this.

First copy your Money data file to another folder in case this suggestion
doesn't work. Then:

1) Go to your Payees Screen, click on New and create a Payee with the exact
new name (with braces) you want.

2) Go to Payee Details and copy all of the account information from the
Payee whose name you want to change.

3) Go to the Payee Details of the Payee you want to change. There will be a
list of all payments made to that payee. One at a time, go to each
transaction and edit it to change the Payee from the original name to the
new name). Once you get in the groove, it won't take to long to complete.

4) When the transaction box is empty, return to the main Payee list.
Highlight the original Payee and click on Delete.

5) Go to your Bill Summary page. Click on the next instance of this bill.
Choose Edit: Bill Series. Change the Name in the Pay To box from the
original Payee to the new one. The account box will come up with the
information you inserted in step 2). Confirm and click OK

It should now work the way you want it.

Re-entered Verizon {2222} and submitted it. It worked fine. Went back to
the older Verizon {222-2222}, didn't work. Apparently, M2006 didn't convert
this correctly. New entries with { } are working.

Now if you can answer this. I have other payees with curly brackets. How
can I edit these? It appears I can edit everything but the name.

name is the same. And I have been doing that for years, until M2006. It's
broken. It tries to send then curly bracket and is rejected. MS broke it
in M2006.

I tried to set up a payee in M2006 with a duplicate name to test this
response and Money came back with a message to use curley baces to avoid
confusion, so I'm surprised that it does not work for you, but in any case,
I'll tell you how my insurance accounts are set up with identical payee
names.

Perhaps someone else with more precise instructions will come along, but in
the meantime, I'll try to remember what I did to set my insurance payments
up. I have both Homeowners and Auto insurance with State Farm which I pay
online through my bank (Chase). I never knew about the braces system so I
managed to set up these accounts without using them. This works in M 2006.

I simply set up 2 online payees at my bank with the same name and address,
but different account numbers. In the comments section I put in Home or
Auto. Now when I want to pay one of those bills, I get a dialog box asking
me which account I want to pay. I choose the correct one. Actually, I
think after the first setup, Money associates the bill item with the correct
account automatically.

I have been using MS Money for over 7 years. I use it to pay bills, track
my accounts (both bank and investments), track my loans, and account
balancing. Dealt with a few minor problems. But, I recently upgraded from
2005 to 2006. I went to send and pay 2 scheduled bills and they both
failed.

In the payee name I have Verizon {111-2222} for the first payee and Verizon
{333-4444} for the second. I received an error message stating that:
"Unexpected attempt to change payee name". The braces (and contents within
them) are not suppose to be transmitted to the bank. Apparently in 2006,
they now are being transmitted. When removing the braces and it's contents,
the transaction is accepted.

I guess MS removed this feature that has been working for many years. My
questions is: Is there a work around? How do other people pay (Epay) a
payee with different accounts? (without any identifying info i.e phone
number showing on the addressee) And having the ability to determine which
payee to use from the Bills Summary page?
