| Return of capital sounds correct because that is what it is. So is a dividend. In both cases assets are removed from the balance sheet and the stock will open down on the market eX dividend date ... usually the underlying eX date minus 3 business days. If you 'reinvest' dividends you are maintaining your per position in the company. What I did in such a case was to transfer-in the spun off shares as there is no effect on the cash position. You can assign an acquisition value since you should know that. The parent company will look like it lost value but actually that value was transfered to a new entity. Notice that Mny pitches GainsKeeper? IOW Mny is not accounting smarts software. Otoh one can not eat capital gains. ![]() arthur == On Sat, 15 Apr 2006 06:43:26 -0700, Jonathan Prince <liljonny[at]comcast.net> wrote: - quote - > I have the same problem with Money 2006 Deluxe. | I have the same problem with Money 2006 Deluxe. This method sounds like you have to do a return of capital for each share of the original stock purchased. I have purchases with dividend reinvestment dating back for more than two decades. liljonny On Thu, 23 Feb. 2006 06:40:32 -0800, Frustrated Money User <FrustratedMoneyUser[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote: - quote - > Anothwer KB is: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/179585/en-us, I did a > spin-off using the "return of capital" method and it works well, with all > reports correct. > Good luck > "mjschuett" wrote: > > I have been unable to perform a spin-off operation in Money Standard 2006. | Anothwer KB is: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/179585/en-us, I did a spin-off using the "return of capital" method and it works well, with all reports correct. | I have been unable to perform a spin-off operation in Money Standard 2006. It always fails with a "The operation cannot be performed." error. I've run a standard file repair and even get the same error when I attempt a spin-off in the sample.mny file. The only knowledege base article is can find (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/300226/en-us) is of no help. Any ideas? |
