| I bought 2006 Standard last night and it does have the investment tracking I was looking for. The upgrade from Money 2000 seems to have worked without a problem. I have a report doesn't seem to work but I think I just need to work through the problem and figure it out. I am surprised that I haven't yet found anything new that is very useful between the 2000 and 2006 versions but I haven't dug very deeply yet. The biggest difference I have noticed is that most of the links and menus seem to point to pages on the internet rather than functionality in the product. I don't know all of the differences, but Standard does update stock> the only one that has a tab on Planning and Investing. It shows an example > about asset allocation and talks about updating stock prices online. prices on line, and provide the Portfolio Manager, a configurable spreadsheet-like page, with various indicators and totaling for your investments. The regular reports AFAIK are there. What "asset allocation" is is letting you know what part of your investments are large-, mid-, small-cap, cash, bonds, and other. You don't need the 401(k) manager. The capital gains estimator could have been useful, but there are Portfolio Manager that can let you tell how much capital gains you would have if you sold various investments. If I understand correctly, you use average-basis on partial investment sales, so specific lots would not matter. - quote - > It is the online updates and various investment reports that I use most. You can have both versions installed at the same time. Just be alert> they in Money 2006 standard? If so I could do without the Lifetime Planner > and just do that in Excel. to not have Money 2006 uninstall your previous version. Make a copy of your Money 2000 file to John06.mny, and let Money 2006 convert that; each version will work on its own file. To not have a Passport on your file, you may have to choose "decline". There is a 30-day money-back guarantee. |

| Thanks for your reply. That is not what the Microsoft Money web site says. Money 2006 Premium is the only one that has a tab on Planning and Investing. It shows an example about asset allocation and talks about updating stock prices online. It is the online updates and various investment reports that I use most. Are they in Money 2006 standard? If so I could do without the Lifetime Planner and just do that in Excel. | I have been using Money for 9 years now and am quite pleased with it. I am currently using the Canadian Edition of Money 2000. I use it on nearly a daily basis to track my income, expenses and investments. I would like to upgrade to a new version to be sure that my stock quotes and bank downloads will continue to work and hopefully gain some of the improvements and fixes that have occurred in the past 6 years. It appears that Money 2006 Standard does not track investments and it appears that Premium does not work for Canada. Since I have been happy with MS Money I wanted to be sure before I went out and purchased Quicken. Has Microsoft really given up the Canadian market for personal investment tracking to Quicken or do they have some other product or version I am not aware of? |
