You might try deleting the statement (right-click "transactions toread") and re-download. - quote - > "Cal Learner-- MVP" wrote: > > In microsoft.public.money, T-Man wrote: > > > > This started happening to me in Money 2005 about a week ago. | This started happening to me in Money 2005 about a week ago. I've been using this version for over a year and never had this problem. I've tried showing "unaccepted transactions", "all transactions" and the transactions never show up even though MS Money shows I have items to review. I also tried "Accept All Transactions" and "Accept All Unmatched Transactions" and it doesn't fix the problem. I also tried downloading the transactions directly from my credit card website instead of allowing them to download though MS Money and there's no difference. Help! | While this might seem obvious, did you select "Show Unaccepted Transactions" in the filter above the register? | In 2006, the transactions do not appear until they are processed in the background after a download. This can cause problems if thinking a download was complete, you immediately go to a register - the new transactions won't be there but the counts will indicate new transactions. I usually keep a handle on it by watching CPU activity (task manager or process explorer or equivalent) after a download. When everything is quiet, I then go into individual registers. I'm thinking that for some, the background process is never completing, but that's just a guess on my part. -- John "DullingWine" <DullingWine[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:28DBF292-8E56-4E83-B64C-1B135AB95887[at]microsoft.com... - quote - > Hi > I'm very close to ditching money 2006 - its frustrating the heck out of > me! > Can someone please put me out of my misery! > I've hooked up to some bank accounts and it appears to have downloaded > some > transactions. | That is exactly what I am saying. I was importing these files since about 1999, first in Quicken and then in MS 2004. It was not until Money 2006 that the transactions failed to appear. I do now believe that in Money 2004, it had a different problem - transactions that had the <brin them were the only ones that did not appear. | Maybe I missed this: you are saying that the stuff in the data that is gagging Money 06 is known to have been there (in particular transactions) for the entire time you have been downloading in previous versions? I agree they shouldn't generally go into working code for an interface like this and change it unless they know in great detail what they are doing and why they are doing it and what the implications of doing it are. That having been said, there's certainly lots of code that is broken--or at least malignant--that they don't seem to be going back into. Why they would pick on this is a mystery. | True, the banks are going to do as little as possible, but MS or Intuit should not come along and break what has been working. I have been importing these files for years and it was not until Money 2006 that I ever had any problems. Usually MS is pretty good about backward compatibility. | True enough. That's just another example of why it's a miracle this stuff works at all for anyone. So it's best just to do whatever trips your trigger and then tell the customers what a great favor you've done for them and skip worrying about whether any of this stuff works? | So the bank has had a decade to get this right and they still don't care enough to do so? I understand the point you are making, but in this case I can't get there. The banks, at this late date it's still only some of them anyway, did Just Enough to be able to advertise that they have these interfaces. From what I see from a decade of watching this from the manual data entry sidelines, not a one of them has ever much cared if they worked. Woe is Microsoft for promising something they don't control enough of to deliver. Woe are the FIs for offering an interface that they neither know nor care works. Woe is the user for expecting Santa Claus to pop out in the fireplace any minute now when it's been obvious for almost a decade that the banks weren't going to got to very much trouble to make these interfaces work well. This problem is happening with: > - citibank account, using online banking > - a UK bank account where I've downloaded QIF (i then run a macro over it to > reverse the dates from UK dd/mm/yy to mm/dd/yy) Somebody today posted that this symptom occurred when he had a QIF file with '<' and '> ' characters. You might check for that. I tried to replicate it in a test file, but was unable to. However If you find either or both of those characters, change them to something else. You can delete the existing statement by right-clicking where it says you have transactions to review, and re-import the modified QIF. Let us know what you learn. Citibank (the bank) offers OFX download from their website. It is not as automated as using the download via a third party, but it is reliable. - quote - > Both accounts so show items to review. In neither one can I actually see > the items to review. > I'm trialling money 2006 primarily because its the US edition and these are > my principal bank accounts now, but clearly it doesn't offer any advantage > over my UK money 2005 if I can't actually connect automatically with my US > financial institutions! > Thanks again > DullingWine |
