Seems to me that the first question in the budget set-up > should be 'what period does this budget cover' presumed to be perpetual in the future, as are scheduled bills unless they have explicit stop dates. Any current scheduled bill is also considered part of the currently displayed budget. If you opened a stored budget, current scheduled bills are incorporated into it. I think the only scheduled bills that exclusively part of a stored budget are those that have already been used, and stopped. Explore the use of one-time scheduled bills, and having multiple scheduled bill series intended for the same purpose but with non-overlapping stop/start dates. Revising a current bill affects that bill retroactively. For example, if you get an increase in salary, don't revise the current paycheck model. Put a stop date on the current model and create a new one reflecting the increase, starting on the subsequent deposit. Take care to do bill/budget experimentation in a copy of your main file. Deleted bills remain part of the budget, unless a stop date was entered. A known bug is that vestiges of deleted bills remain in the budget, if they did not have an explicit stop date. Search Google groups on this group and topic. Include "cash flow forecast" which is related and useful, when configured and working properly. -- Chris Cowles Gainesville, FL |

If I can do that then presumably the software will only take into account instances of scheduled bills occuring in that date range. I have produced a report of actual expenditure over a given date range by category/subcategory and would like a budget which matches it and appears on the same report. Seems to me that the first question in the budget set-up should be 'what period does this budget cover' Any further thoughts ?? Zed-UK |

Scheduled bills are part of the budget. | I am driving myself mad trying to create an annual household budget by category/subcategory where I decide how much to budget irrespective of whether scheduled bills exist or not and for a specific period of time e.g. April 1 2005 through 31 March 2006. I would like to be able to compare this on same report with actuals for the same period. Can anyone help ?? Zed |
