Default Downgrading from M2006 to M2004

I've been using 2006 for a while and it's fine, I guess.

Other versions on other computers are still 2004.

In order to pass files back and forth, I either have to upgrade the 2004
computers (2) to 2006, or downgrade my one M2006 computer to M2004.

First, is the downgrade possible using QIF files.
Next, is it advisable?
Next, how is it best done?

Many thanks.
