| I Balance the accounts to the cash in my pocket. I let it enter an Account Adjustment against Miscellaneous (no subcategory) for the difference. | I enter what I spent it on. I have only a few things I use cash for, so I don't usually have a problem figuring out what that was. The rest are the reason we have "miscellaneous." Susan - quote - > How do you make entries to reconcile your cash? |

Because the vast majority of my expenses pass through my credit card, and I use online banking to download and categorize all of those, my cash transactions are relatively small. I did track it in detail for a short while, but only proved to myself the expenses were insignificant. If I do spend a larger chunk of cash on something and want to bother categorizing it, I simply edit the corresponding ATM transaction in my checking account accordingly. -- Chris Cowles Gainesville, FL |

I am not sure what you mean by that, but I don't track my pocketmoney. Others have techniques that are more rigorous. And I don't budget. In credit card, checking and investment accounts, I track down and fix discrepancies. |

I'm using the "Write-Off" account to transfer money from cash to keep it from showing up in my budget. I will start making entries with no category instead. You can use transactions with no category, if you are not using the> have the off setting entry show up on my reports or in my budget? Business version. You can customize reports to exclude certain categories. - quote - > Currently I have a cash account called "Write-Off" and I transfer the amount
I am not sure what is not working the way you like in that regard.> needed to reconcile from "Cash" to "Write-Off". In some cases, I could see money that is written off to be an expense. Perhaps that would just be for accrual vs cash accounting. Anyway, if you are looking to make the value of the "Write-Off" account go down without other effects, you could make the initial balance of that account more negative. I feel there is a better way to do what you want. |

| How do I make entries in the cash account for reconciliation purposes and not have the off setting entry show up on my reports or in my budget? Currently I have a cash account called "Write-Off" and I transfer the amount needed to reconcile from "Cash" to "Write-Off". Thanks, Jason |
