| Ok, I have FINALLY figured out this problem after a lot of headbanging. For some reason, a lot of the old Money registry entries (and maybe others) in my registry were "owned" by a user that no longer existed on my laptop (I know this because when I would right-click on a certain key, like HKCR/money I would get a permissions error and a message about how I could change permissions but not see them). To resolve this, I first changed the "Owner" on the entire HKCR hive to the local Administrators group and let this populate down through all sub-keys. Even this gave me errors, though, and it was unable to change all of the permissions. Then, I had to go key-by-key, change the owner to the local Administrators group, then ADD the local administrator to the permissions tab with full control. THEN I was able to delete the key. I did this for all of the keys mentioned in the mny.inf file under \MONEY\ on my install CD. After that, it finally installed successfully. Whew. I hope this helps anyone else who has been having this problem, because it seems to have happened to a few people and from what I found, no one has resolved it yet. ![]() |

| I purchased Money 2006 Standard over the weekend and tried to upgrade the existing 2005 Standard I had on my laptop. It prompted me to remove 2005, which it did, and the rest of the install seemed to go fine. When the progress bar got all the way to the end, the screen banner changed to "Installation is complete" but had the following message in the middle: "Setup was unable to install some of the components needed to run Money. Try installing Money again." I have tried several times and cannot get Money to install properly. I've also tried: - installing as local administrator - installing in Safe Mode - installing as a brand new administrator level local user - following KB articles to remove all Money registry entries and do clean reboot When I was cleaning out the registry, I did find several entries that I could not delete or view ("access is denied"). I also found the following errors in the setupapi.log file: #-336 Copying file "e:\money\translr.wav" to "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money 2006\MNYCoreFiles\sounds\translr.wav" via temporary file "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money 2006\MNYCoreFiles\sounds\SET265.tmp". #E361 An unsigned or incorrectly signed file "e:\money\translr.wav" will be installed (Policy=Ignore). Error 1168: Element not found. #-336 Copying file "e:\money\webdone.wav" to "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money 2006\MNYCoreFiles\sounds\webdone.wav" via temporary file "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money 2006\MNYCoreFiles\sounds\SET267.tmp". #E361 An unsigned or incorrectly signed file "e:\money\webdone.wav" will be installed (Policy=Ignore). Error 1168: Element not found. #-086 Deleting registry value "HKCR\MoneyBackup.Document\Shell\Open\Command\Comm and" #E033 Error 5: Access is denied. #E065 Parsing DelReg section [DelReg.Msi] in "e:\money\mny.inf" failed. Error 5: Access is denied. #E064 Parsing install section [DefaultInstall.W2K] in "e:\money\mny.inf" failed. Error 5: Access is denied. I can't believe how difficult this is. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get this install to work? |
