| Thanks, Cal. I believe I have tried that suggestion several times, but will give it one more attempt. | Trying to help a fellow who cannot open his backup Money file. He was using 2002, had a problem, tried to restore from backup with no success. He then removed 2002 and installed 2006, tried to restore from backup with no success. Error received is one that has been posted and addressed here: "Money cannot locate [location of file] or cannot open it, possibly because it is a read-only file or your disk drive is write protected." For [location of file] the name is the file name entered for the restored file; e.g., My Money Restored.mny. This would be a new file. Fellow has five copies of his backup file. They are all the same size - approximately 22mb - but different dates. He claims to have copied the default backup file to create these files, but that could be inaccurate. The files are named "My Money Backup 0," "My Money Backup 1," etc., up to "My Money Backup 5." The names themselves lead me to believe they might have been created by Microsoft Money upon exit. Version 2006 of the software appears to be working ok. He can create a new file and the sample file can be opened. Wouldn't the 2006 version have all of the necessary fixes to the problem as previously described in this group? Is there some file name imbedded with the backup file which has to match the restore name? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Nancy |
