| I implemented all of your suggestions, but I could not find anything on "background banking". Where can I disable this feature? | I know the box says it. I suspect the sample file works fine with a 166 MHz machine. But not very many people's real data files. So the box lies. I'd not assume Quicken is better in all regards. Most accounts note trading one set of blemishes for another. And migrating your data will be very difficult. Believe me, if jumping from M to Q was a viable alternative with merit in the Q solution this NG would be a pretty quiet place. | That's funny. I seem to remember reading on the side of the box, "166MHz" for minimum requirements. What you wrote is certainly true - all the other applications on my computer run just fine. BTW, I have 384 megs of RAM. Thank-you for your help. I will be switching to Quicken after I feel that Money '06 has earned the $22 I threw out the window for it. | It sounds like you are overdue for a new computer. None of your other apps may find the 500MHz a limiting speed. Money (any version after M2K) uses all of the CPU you can afford for it and is still the slowest app on your machine. You also don't mention how much memory you have. Money is as profligate with memory as with CPU. My M04 machine is a 2.2GHZ P4 with 1GB of memory. Money is the slowest app on the box by an order of magnitude. I do not recommend archiving. But that's another thread. To reduce the delay on opening, I would select Tools-> Settings-> ProgramSettings-> (Display StartMoneyWithThisPageOpen:AccountListI would consider disabling background banking and removing the Passport, if you have those enabled. Before doing that, make an extra copy or backup of your file so that you could undo it if you lose something that you want. You could contact Microsoft directly. I don't think the things I suggested will help that delay upon entering transactions. |

| I would like to improve the performance of Money. It tends to max out my processor (PIII-500Mhz) for a few minutes every time I open it and when I am entering transactions. My file was originally created in Money 98, was converted to Money 2002, and just recently converted to 2006 in hopes that 2006 would perform better. I archive my transactions annually, keeping 2 years worth in my file. Is there anything else I can do??? |
