That was unnecessary. You could have just installed the newer> problem. > The microsoft tech emailed me a trial version of Money 2004 (he said > that you cannot transfer files directly from 2001 to 2006 - we had to reset > my system clock > to Dec. 31, 2004 to make it work) and converted my files to the 2004 > "format". | After talking with microsoft for 1.75 hours, here's how we resolved the problem. The microsoft tech emailed me a trial version of Money 2004 (he said that you cannot transfer files directly from 2001 to 2006 - we had to reset my system clock to Dec. 31, 2004 to make it work) and converted my files to the 2004 "format". We then uninstalled 2001. Along the way I was backing up the files as we transferred them to my hard disk, and to a floppy. As we went through the conversions, 2004 didn't like my 2001 files from the hard disk, but converted the ones from floppy right away....as was the case when we converted the 2004 files to 2006. Turns out the I had a corrupted file on some of my my hard disk back-up files and when I tried to install 2006, it was looking at all of these files, not just my most recent. The microsoft tech had me delete all of my "money" back-ups on the hard drive except the most recent. 2006 installed smoothly (after we uninstalled 2004) and I was able to convert my 2004 files (originally from 2001) from the floppy. Just in case the corruption is still in my hard disk files, I am going to back it all up one more time to disk, delete the files on my HD, and restore them from floppy. Thanks for your input -- ibwheels "Cal Learner-- MVP" wrote: - quote - > In microsoft.public.money, Glenn B. wrote: > > I would recommend uninstalling the MS Money 2001 AND deleting any program > > folders that it may leave behind. > > > Try reinstalling 2006 again. > > > Glenn B. > > > "ibwheels" <ibwheels[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > > news:478D78E5-17A7-49AD-8394-FF8B97C1FB88[at]microsoft.com... > > > I am currently running Money 2001 (it came with my Dell desktop). I would avoid uninstalling Money 2001 on that first computer until the problem is resolved. | I would recommend uninstalling the MS Money 2001 AND deleting any program folders that it may leave behind. Try reinstalling 2006 again. Glenn B. | I am currently running Money 2001 (it came with my Dell desktop). I bought 2006 today and expected an easy install. When the installation cd starts, all I get is an error message that says "setup cannot continue because an online communication with your bank or broker was interrupted in your previous version of money..." It advises to open my current version and complete the communication, and try setup again. I have opened and closed my current version, and I know of no interrupted online communications.
