| Likewise. I back up to a USB flash drive without issue using M2006. Of course, I have selected that destination in the settings. I was also successful backing up to a USB flash drive using M2004. --Howie On Sun, 15 Jan 2006 11:18:37 -0700, "Dick Watson" <littlegreengecko[at]mind-enufalready-spring.com> wrote: - quote - > I have no clue what's going on in your environment, but I suggest you check > all of your Tools|Settings|Backup settings very carefully. | I don't think anybody here has any ideas because none of us here have seen anything similar. As noted, I tested this here and cannot duplicate your results. I was only making the comment because you seem so insistent on there being a bug in Money as though whether there is or isn't changes your situation. | Hi Mr. Watson, You ask what I am going to do. It's really not a big deal. I can just back up to my hard drive and drag the file over to the USB drive (as I think you suggested first). Really not that big of a problem. I just thought someone here would have an idea how to fix it. I thought maybe it might be a simple matter of just clicking a box somewhere. So I will probably buy a flash drive as you also suggested and in the meantime keep trying to solve this myself. If I come up with anything new I will post it here. Thanks for your input. | Hi Ken, Thanks for your response. Yes I have used numerous other programs to write to the drive. I currently have over 2 gigs filled up on the drive from data made and written there by other programs. Gong into my computer and checking the drive under properties shows it to be the correct size. | You are right. It does seem odd that only Money has this problem with the drive. One would think that Money would just use whatever Windows service determines the free space on the drive. Did you try right-clicking on the drive in windows explorer and checking the properties? Make sure that it shows the correct free space. Other than that, I would try using other programs to try to write a big file to the drive to see if any other program exhibits the problem. This might further suggest whether the bug is local to Money. | Re. M02, this doesn't surprise me--it was very lame about floppy vs. hundreds of other possible kinds of removable media backups. M06 essentially rewrote the entire backup scheme. Let's suppose it is an issue with M06. I don't consider this at all impossible--given the oddball things I see everyday with Money. What are you going to do? Nobody here can tell you what bugs Microsoft does or does not know about nor can we fix it. Your best bet then is to open a support case directly with them. | I have no clue what's going on in your environment, but I suggest you check all of your Tools|Settings|Backup settings very carefully. I just tested this here on M06 against a 512MB key with lots of free space. It worked fine. Wrote a 14.6 MB, compressed, file. | Hi Cal, Please don't misunderstand. I appreciate your help. I suppose if I have to I'll spend the money on a flash drive as you suggest. But before I spend more money I thought I would try to solve the problem using this drive. Not that $30 bucks or so is a big deal. Just that I like the seagate drive I have. It's big enough to back up all the data on my computer. In any case sorry if I seemed combative. Not my intention. | Hi Mr. Watson, What you say may be true. BTW I am using Windows XP Pro Service pack 2. I believe it is telling XP that the drive is a removable drive. This is what is says in windows explorer when plugged in. In any case the strange part about this whole thing is that the very first backup I made onto this drive using Money 2002 worked perfectly. Unfortuanately any subsequent attemps to back up since then asks for a second disk. Whatever the drive is telling XP it isn't giving my Quick Books program (or any other program on my computer for that matter) any problems. Still I suspect a problem with Money itself. Not sure I want to go out and by another memory stick to prove I'm right though. Thanks for your response. Any further suggestions would be appreciated. | The real question here is what kind of device is XP telling Money you have. That IS conditioned by what kind of device the device is telling XP it is in the first place. That's not to say that Money isn't making some stupid assumptions given what XP is telling it. | Hi Cal, Thank you for your response. Yes, it's Money 2006. The box does say Money 2006 Deluxe, The USB Memory "stick" I have is not really a memory "Stick". I is a little Seagate USB drive. Kind of like a memory stick but larger. See link below. It's meant to be portable and placed in a pocket etc. It has 5 gigabytes of available space. It has to be a Money problem and not the drives problem. I also use Quick books which has no problems backing up to this drive. Money should recognize that there is plenty of room on this drive. Obviously a bug in the program somewhere. Money thinks it's backing up to an "A" drive or floppy when it is not. This is why it is asking for a second disk. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...lance&n=172282 Any further suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. | Hi all, As per suggested on this forum I upgraded to Money Deluxe 2006. I did this as a new install and kept my Money 2002 program as well on the same computer. Unfortunately upgrading to 2006 did not solve the problem. The problem is that even though I have gigabytes of free space on my USB memory stick the Money program will tell me to put in "Disk 2" to finish backing up to the drive. Every thing is set correctly. Money is pointed to the correct drive it just "thinks" is a floppy drive or something. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Chris |
