Import all of the data applying all QIF import things like mass import of
multiple accounts that are interlinked by Transfers. Create the accounts
that didn't import. Then go and rework the imported transactions that used
to reference the accounts you had to create so that they once again
reference the newly created accounts.

Are these repairs are made after I import all the other, including checking,
accounts?

Yes. But that's barely the half of it. All of the former Loan Payment
transactions that did Principal Transfers to the old Loan Account will be
mangled since the import had no way to associate them with an account that
it had no way to create. Those will have to get fixed once you have created
the Loan Account.

So then I need to create a new loan account using the same name as the old
account, run the loan wizard and enter all the information as I had in the
old account?

I think he means create a new loan account using the same parameters as the
original loan account. Microsoft makes this a lot harder than need be since
they won't let you create an arbitrarily old loan account without changing
the date backwards on your computer. (Mind numbingly stupid.) Anyway, once
you have created the loan account, the transactions you imported that were
Loan Payments but import as some kind of expense split need to be converted
back to Loan Payments.

Chris - When you say rebuild the loan account. Does this mean to enter the
transactions exactly as they appear in the original mortgage account?

Rebuild the loan account first. Name the loan account exactly as it has been
named in the imported transactions.

If that doesn't work, you'll have to edit each of the imported
transactions, revising the category from an expense to a loan payment. You
can find them using Find and Replace. I don't think you can replace them
automatically, but can edit them individually. Do it in sequence.

Default Exporting loan accounts

According to mskb article 178830 and the umpfaq, one cannot export a loan
account. So if I am exporting/importing a checking account that has made
payments to a mortgage (loan) account, how do I handle this?
