Thank you for your very fast response. It indeed has an .mny extenstion and
is not read-only. I've done all the steps from
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/182608/en-us and also from
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/902466/ (i.e salvage.exe) and to no avail.

Unfortunately my last backup is from April 2005. Unbeknownst to me, the
program hadn't been backing up daily as I was being lead to believe.

Check the file attributes, and make sure it is not a read-only file.

Also, search your drive for the presence of any *.mbf files. Keep an
extra copy of your recent backup on different media, just in case.

Hi.
I use MS Money 2000 Basic Canada version.

Get this message when trying to open Money file:

This file is corrupted or is not a Money data file. Make sure you are
opening a file with an MNY extension. If you have chosen the correct file and
it could not be accessed, you will need to open your most recent backup file
to access your data. (Click OK then I get
Money could not open the file and will close now. Your file may be corrupt.
To repair the file, go to the Windows Start menu and click Run. Type “msmoney
–s ‘filename’� where ‘filename’ is the complete path to your Money file, and
then press Enter. If Money still cannot open your file, call Microsoft
Technical Support.

When I try to solve the problem using the above instructions I get:
“(file) is corrupted or in not a Money data file. Money has tried to repair
this file but failed. You will need to open your most recent backup file to
access you data. (Click OK then I get This file is corrupted or is not a
Money data file. Make sure you are opening a file with an MNY extension. If
you have chosen the correct file and it could not be accessed, you will need
to open your most recent backup file to access your data. (OK)

Any ideas? I can open sample data, so Money seems to run fine. I had no
power outages or any other anomoly. :'(
