You may have tried this, but lets make sure:

In Account List make sure SortAccountListBy-> HideClosedAccounts is
not selected.

Then do step 1 in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/327241/en-us

Then blank the Institution from the Account Settings.

The purpose would be for others who might use NatWest to be able to
report that they are or are not having a similar problem. It also
allowed me to check to see if they were listed on
http://www.microsoft.com/money/banko...Type=BanksOnly

Closing the old one and starting fresh would not be my inclination,
but if it works for you, fine.

The purpose was to create a new test file to see if that OFX file
was OK, and was readable by Money into an unused file. The purpose
of selecting Decline in that test file was to not have to put a
Passport on that test file.

I don't see how that follows. Money opens the last used file by
default. You can switch among recently used files by selecting the
file from the bottom of the File menu.

I don't think I suggested deleting or closing the old account. I
suspect that doing that without first blanking the FI could be
causing your problems.

You followed the steps from the KB articles? You were able to blank
out the FI on your old account?

I don't understand why you are having a problem, but I suspect it is
either a bad OFX file, or that your old closed account got
associated with that OFX. I was trying to describe tests that might
differentiate that.

I suggest you contact Microsoft directly. Sorry if I fatigued you.

My ofx downloads come from NatWest - but what has this got to do with the
problem? Surely I should be able to target the account to which the
downloaded ofx applies without this hassle? I have set up other accounts in
the same file and downloaded OK in the past. The difference now is that the
'new' account I'm trying to download the ofx to is the same as the old one.
I'm just closing the old one after 3 years, so that I can start afresh and
leave some old, minor errors behind. This is why the 'old' account has been
re-named and closed. (Hope that makes sense).

Don't quite understand your 'decline' in opening a new file. I don't really
want to create a new file anyway, as there are other accounts in the existing
file I need to keep. Creating a new file will surely mean I have to keep
opening and closing files needlessly?

On a side note, the F1 help file refuses to open within my installation of
MS Money - just says 'page not found'. I also found it a terrible struggle
finding this bulletin board! There's not a lot of intuitiveness (if that's a
real word) to MS any more!

So where are you getting that OFX file from? You two using the same
bank?

If you create a new file ("decline" during process) and File-> Import
the file there, do you get something?

I've followed ALL the advice from Cal - with no joy. I'm not surprised
satxfili gave up! I'm running Money 2005 and have the same problem. I don't
want to lose all information in the account I closed by deleting it. Why is
this MS software so unintuitive and why should I have to delve into download
files to change the target. Grrrr...HELP!

OK. Open the OFX file with a text editor such as Notepad.

Find the numbers and/or letters following <TRNUID> and change the
first character to something else. That may be enough. Save the
file, and File-> Import that file as a statement. The theory is that
Money remembers having already seen that statement. So let Money
think it is a different statement.

If still no joy, do that again and also the same for the first
character following each <FITID> .

The accounts weren't closed. I had just "blanked" the financianal
institution from the account settings and indicated that they were not held
by any financial institution on the "specify where your accounts are held
page". I don't know what else to do.

Can you un-close that account, and go to the account
settings/details? Then BLANK the Institution.

Then try that download again. If still no joy, check back.

I had already deleted all pending statements and deleted the financial
institution from the account settings for the accounts and had moved the
accounts to the "unassigned accounts area". I then tried downloading the
information again and it shows it imported but never gave me the opportunity
to pick the account to use and never shows against any account in the account
list. I am using Money 2006 Deluxe. I have also done a standard and quick
repair to no avail. Any other suggestions?

If OFX Web statements are placed in the wrong account:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...90&Product=mny
http://support.microsoft.com/default...41&Product=mny

Even tho you might not be running the same version, the technique
should work.

Default Accounts to match in downloaded statements

Does anyone know where the "data" is stored that indicates which account a
statement is to be matched with on import? I keep getting the wrong account
updated when a statement is imported and even when I delete the account
number and the bank name from the account information it still tries to match
it.
