| Thanks. I will try to do that but I think MS Money should be able to do that without much problems. This seems like a simple fix for them to do and they dont have that ability. Do you happen to know if they do it in the newer version of MS Money? I have 2005 version. | Shambones... I have a somewhat similar situation to yours that I do for rebates and when I cash in American Express points for purchases (AMEX charges me $ and then credits the $ after it verifies that I have enough points, so I end up with a debit and a credit and they don't offset for reporting purposes because Money doesn't report the 'negative' expenses. You can get it to include them on the reports if you want, by customizing the reports on the details tab, changing the type to "All Types". I find that this really screws up what I want to see for reporting purposes, so if you think so too, here's what I do: Set up another account, call it whatever you want. Record the credit card expense as a "Transfer to: In Transit" and then the deposit as a "Transfer to: In Transit". This will wash the account to zero and you don't have to categorize the expense as an actual expense, so your net transaction is zero, which is what you want. So, it's a suspense account that should wash all the time...unless you have an outstanding rebate or something. And, let's say you went to the store and bought $50 worth of clothes. You split the transaction, $20 clothing and $30 Transfer to: In Transit. I find this account works best for my purposes. | How can I give credit back to something that was previously marked as an expense. In other words, I have something (in the clothing category) I bought with my credit card for $30. I then received $30 for the gift from a friend and deposited it into my bank. It is obviously categorized as a deposit but I also want to give credit back to the clothing category. I have a spending limit but if I choose "clothing" as the category, it does not subtract from the clothing category even though it is listed as a deposit. I cant get it to give credit to that category unless I subtract it from my credit card in the first place but then my credit card balance would be off from the actual bill that will be mailed. Please tell me how to "add" back to a category that has been previously subtracted from. The same thing happens when I may return a product and get credit back on the credit card. I want credit to that category. Thanks |
