| Thanks everyone for your replies! I'm running Windows XP Professional Version 2002.... I just tried copying the backup file from my floppy to my hardrive on both the original desktop and another. Both times it gets about halfway done copying and then it seems to get hung up for a long time and I finally get the message: data error (cyclic redundancy check)... When I doubleclick on the file, Money opens up and it displays the Restoring message box and works for a long time, but never gets anywhere. It finally gives this message: A:\QDATA Backup 'd1.mbf' is corrupted or is not a Money backup file. Unfortunately, I'm not terribly computer savvy and I don't really understand the other advice given here or how to use the recovery programs. I'm going to ask the computer guy to read your replies and maybe he'll be able to help me from there...I hope! I'll try the floppy on my work computer...but I have a feeling I won't have much more luck... Sorry for the delay in my responding. I thought I was going to be notified when I got replies, but I never was. So I just now figured I'd check for responses. Thanks again for the replies! amz |

| The reason I ask about the version that made the backup is that users have been offered online upgrade deals and more than one user has come here having forgotten accepting the offer. They thought they were running, say, M02 but were really running, say, M04. One thing you might try: install the M06 trial from http://www.microsoft.com/money and see if it will restore/upgrade the file. Of particular interest if it does so is what tile extension it puts on the retained back-level file when it upgrades. Your hoping, since M03 is what you have, that it comes up .M11. | Hi, Unfortunately not, only the backup and Money 2003 Standard , part of Microsoft Works Suite 2003 is the only oney software I have. I have also tried replacing the backup file of a new test file I created with my original saved backup file but it still wouldn't open. One odd thing is that it always asks me to sign into my net passport and if I click on forgotten password (which I know) it will not let me connect to the internet even though there is no problem with the internet connection. All a bit strange, by thge way it is version 11 of Money Do you have any other suggestions? Thanks for your help Pev "Dick Watson" wrote: - quote - > Do you have a copy of the data file that is in its original form, not a > backup? | Do you have a copy of the data file that is in its original form, not a backup? Are you positive that the version you were running was still M03? A spot in your My Documents folder is usually good. If you still have a problem, see if you can copy that backup file to your My Documents folder. |

| I have just reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled Money 2003 but it will not restore my backup file. I have read through the FAQ about this but still cannot restore the file. I am running Windows XP Pro with Money 2003 OEM part of Microsoft Works Suite. Whenever I try to restore my backup file (*mbf) I get the error message "Cannot open the file, may be Read only or the Harddrive may be write protected - none of which applies in my case. I have tried both quick and deep repairs but to no avail. I always end up with me having to sign into my Net passport and that just leads me back to the error message above. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance |
