An HSA is not something you purchase; it’s a savings account into which you can deposit money on a tax-preferred basis. The only product you purchase with an HSA is a High Deductible Health Plan, an inexpensive plan that will cover you should your medical expenses exceed the funds you have in your HSA. |

| Thanks, Chris. I may well do that. That's just what I did for my FSA -- simple bank account. But the HSA has fund investment options, so I wanted (I think) to be able to track that as well, thus my proposed complexity. So, for investment growth (or un-growth) in the HSA, you'd just see that as some kind of "value load" (from where?) in your regular account? Or do you not track the investment portion at all? BTW, I have three different web sites with three different logins to manage this HSA (one for investment portion, one for claims on the HSA, one for debit card), none of which have direct or web downloads into Money. ![]() Thanks again, -Tony "Chris Cowles" <spam_magnet[at]remove-me-bellsouth.net> wrote in message news:eAomjAmFGHA.1100[at]TK2MSFTNGP10.phx.gbl... - quote - > Just treat it like a bank account with deposits (pre-tax paycheck > withholding) and withdrawals (requests for reimbursements). | I have the same issue. Just started an HSA and am wondering how best to set that up in M06 Deluxe. I'm currently thinking of setting it up as an investment account -- that's what it is after all. Investment accountsalready have an investment portion and a cash portion. Employer and my pre-tax contributions flow into the cash portion of the investment account, which would then result in investment transactions (i.e. buys). I'll need to manually enter the buys, etc, from my online view of the account. Likewise, for reimbursement from the HSA, I'd imagine I'll have a sell transaction from HSA(investment) into HSA(cash), which I could then transfer to my regular checking/savings account. Since there is also a debit card associated with the account, I'm not yet sure if I'll handle that simply through the cash portion of the investmetn account, or make yet another HSA(debit) account for things to flow through. But this is all just speculation on my part yet since I don't yet have transactions to see how it really will be handled (other than my initial employer contribution). Any ideas from the experts out there? -Tony "Jeffrey A. Kirby" <Jeffrey A. Assuming SB is sufficiently like Deluxe for this to apply, simply create a> Money 2006 Small Business Edition. This is an account that I have with my > current employer and has the ability to be invested in 5-6 different types > of > funds (of my choosing). Transfer from your paycheck to the HSA, before taxes. When you get reimbursements from your employer, deposit them to checking as transfers from the HSA. If you get them on your paycheck, categorize them as negative expenses on the after-tax tab. If this is a medical FSA, you can make claims before you actually have funds. Ignore the deficit. If you terminate with the employer before the end of the year, you don't have to reimburse it. Record as income. Whether it's taxable, I haven't a clue. If you leave money on the table at the end of a tax year, expense it. -- Chris Cowles Gainesville, FL |

| What is the best way to track an HSA (Health Savings Account) in Microsoft Money 2006 Small Business Edition. This is an account that I have with my current employer and has the ability to be invested in 5-6 different types of funds (of my choosing). Can I get someone's suggestion... because it is not mentioned in the Help file or anywhere within a Google search. I was think of just setting up a regular savings account, but how do I track employer contributions as well as tracking the various types of funds (stocks, bonds, etc) the account can be invested in? Thank you in advance for your prompt response. |
