| Reinvest Dividends is the wrong choice for this situation. You should use the two transactions as recommended by Cal Lerner. Your choice will mess up your summaries because a Dividen is taxable, a Return of Capital is not *and* A Return of Capital reduces your basis, a Dividend does not. -- Peace, BobJ "Kyle" <Kyle[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:36B8F3EA-1159-4ED6-99F3-D266BF154F84[at]microsoft.com... - quote - > I have the same circumstance as you do. | I have the same circumstance as you do. I use the "Reinvest Dividends" option for mine. I'm not sure if you have to swtich to some sort of "Advanced" setting (instead of essential). It should be listed as one of the activities. "cpa" wrote: - quote - > I have an investment in which I reinvest dividends etc. into additional > shares. If you had a return of capital which was used to purchase additional> shares. It has just paid an item which it classifies as a "return of > investment". For dividends, you have the choice of Reinvest Dividend, or entering both a Dividend and a Buy. |

| I have an investment in which I reinvest dividends etc. into additional shares. It has just paid an item which it classifies as a "return of investment". When trying to record it, there are categories for Reinvest - Interest, Dividends, Short Term Capital Gains, Med. Term Capital Gains and Long Term Capital Gains. There appears to be no way to reinvest return of investment dividends. Has anyoune encountered this and is there a solution? -- cpa |
