If you're downloading the mortgage payment, it should match and post the
scheduled bill automatically. No need to 'skip' it. In fact, if it doesn't,
the downloaded mortgage payment will require manual editing to categorize as
a loan payment. That's exactly what you're trying to avoid by downloading.

If the download seems not to post the scheduled bill, set the bill to post
automatically a few days in advance. That way it will already be in the
register when the transaction is downloaded. If it doesn't match then, use
the Change button to match it. Subsequent downloaded transactions should
remember the link.

Default Questions about Scheduled Bills

I am having trouble understanding the exact relationship between
scheduled bills and other transactions. Most of the source of my
confusion is related to a couple of situations I've encountered with
Mortgage payments.

When I used the initial setup wizard to configure my accounts in Money,
it categorized my mortgage payments as "Bills: Mortgage Payment". Of
course, I want the transaction to be entered as "Loan Payment:
<accountname> ".

My first question is should I just change the category in the scheduled
bill?

My second question is related but more complex. I am assuming that one
of the roles of Scheduled Bills is in cash flow forcasting, reporting,
etc...so if I have something like the aforementioned mortgage payment,
I'd better have it in Money if I want something more than just an
electronic checkbook (right???). The problem I have is that I download
transactions for the checking account that I use to pay my mortgage. I
have developed a good system for categorizing those transactions and
matching them to payments in my mortgage account.

Assuming that my understanding of Scheduled Bills as something more
than just a handy reminder is correct, I want to keep them but I also
want to keep the transactions that I currently download and use. So,
are there any implications to setting up the mortgage payment as a
Scheduled Bill (using the Loan Payment:... category) and just using the
"Skip this occurance" when it rolls around each month?
