While I'm not happy that it was apparently necessary, the effort was worth it to me. |

I am quite intrigued by the performance improvement Kevin and Chris reported with export/import though I shudder at the manual adjustments that need to be done. I will attempt it some day (not soon) and report here what happened. |

| I can relate. I've been using Money since 2001. I had upgraded to version 2004 and liked it a lot. Then, I upgraded to 2005. I went from Feb of '05 thru Nov '05 of not putting in any entries other than invoices from my business, mainly because the '05 version was slow, and setting up a budget was next to impossible. It had other quirks in it, so I all but gave up for nearly a year. Nov '05 I created a very, very extensive spreadsheet to give me a dashboard on my finances and had it worked out so that what I did today would show the effects over the next 12 months. It was a lot of work, but it gave me exactly what I needed. By the first week of Dec '05 I clearly saw how much work it was going to be so I came to this forum to get some questions answered. Thank you people, on this forum for having the answers I was looking for. I decided to do some research on Money 2006 and Quicken, along with other accounting software before making the ultimate attempt at getting my finances in order. I downloaded trial version of Money 2006 (Quicken didn't have a trial version to download) and put in all my information from November and first week of December. Once I had all of that in, I began to see there were a lot of improvements with the functionality of 2006. I am thankful I didn't switch to Quicken!!!!! For the past two weeks, I did nothing but bring all my accounts current in the 2005 version, reconciled everything, got all the bills and deposits setup so that I can work with cashflow properly and then upgraded to 2006. I have a very thorough picture of my finances, thanks to you guys and a debt reduction plan started. I have my PDA updated and now, my financials are back on track and I see when things will be tight. I can also plug in scenarios and see how it affects balances 12 months (or more) down the road. I can also see how tings are from one paycheck to the next! Sweet! It's also estimated my taxes for me!!!! I am so prepared, I will be ready to do my income taxes in January!!!! Now, the hard work is behind me and I can focus on life. Keeping up with money 2006 will be easy. For those who had problems with 2005 and having quirky problems, update to 2006... it's well worth it. I now have a financial roadmap ahead of me. |

Agreed. I've made the same statement myself several times in this forum.> ... > Sometimes it's the only way to get rid of the "baggage" but it's NOT a > feat for the novice Money user. -- Chris Cowles Gainesville, FL |

| Chris, I've also done the import/export thing in the past. It is absolutely a lot of work and can get very confusing and complicated when dealing with investment accounts that have associated cash accounts. In my case my Money file size went from around 14MB down to around 5MB with a definite performance improvement. Sometimes it's the only way to get rid of the "baggage" but it's NOT a feat for the novice Money user. -Kevin "Chris Cowles" <NoSpam[at]For.me> wrote in message news:%23Z%234CO2AGHA.3104[at]TK2MSFTNGP12.phx.gbl... - quote - > "Kevin" <nospam[at]nospam.com> wrote in message news:%232VgZj1AGHA.2788[at]TK2MSFTNGP14.phx.gbl... > > > I don't know if you've ever gone through the rigors of trying to repair a > > corrupt file with M04 but M06 attempts to repair itself when it detects > > corruption. I've had good results with this so far. A nice improvement. repair it sufficiently after conversion to allow it to work properly. I ended up rebuilding it by exporting everything and reimporting to a new file. Lots of work, including manual re-entry of a lot of stuff but, for me, worth it in the end. | tinkynan, I too had M04, bought M05, tried it, almost immediately uninstalled it and threw it away. M06 in my opinion is as good as M04. I don't know if you've ever gone through the rigors of trying to repair a corrupt file with M04 but M06 attempts to repair itself when it detects corruption. I've had good results with this so far. A nice improvement. For me the cost of M06 is worth it for the continued investment downloads. -Kevin "Steve" <sjcohen730[at]aol.com> wrote in message news:1134851683.165753.252460[at]g14g2000cwa.googlegroups.com... - quote - > tinkynan wrote: > > I upgraded from M04 to M05 3 months ago and after going through hell, I > > got rid of Money 2005 and went back to Money 2004. | I upgraded from M04 to M05 3 months ago and after going through hell, I got rid of Money 2005 and went back to Money 2004. Money2005 is unbearably slow and locks up frequently and that is just minor irritants. It screwed up my investment transactions with no hope of fixing it. For those who haven't tried yet, save yourself time even if you have a free copy. Money2005 is a piece of garbage. My question to those you who switched from Money2005 to Money 2006 is, is there any point in upgrading to Money2006? Or, should I just stick to my dear old 2004 version. TIA for any responses. |
