I suspect the problem is that you are using the EXPENSE category> category of "Credit Card Payments/Transfers" and when I double click on that > category it shows all of my transfers out of savings. that is made for people who are not tracking the individual purchases with a credit card. Change those transactions to the SPECIAL (scroll to the bottom of the list) category of Transfer, and the sub-category will be the credit card account or bank. I suggest you delete that EXPENSE category after you have made the changes. - quote - > I wouldn't think that

| Credit Card Payments/Transfers is a stupid category Microsoft created just to confuse people. see http://umpmfaq.info/faqdb.php?q=167. Thank you for responding. In the report "Spending By Category" I have a huge expense amount in the category of "Credit Card Payments/Transfers" and when I double click on that category it shows all of my transfers out of savings. I wouldn't think that I should see a transfer of money as an expense. I guess I am thinking it would be more invisible in my spending reports since it is just a movement out of monies from one account to another before it is actually spent. I'm not sure how this all effects the budgeting either...ugh Thanks again. =) |

It is normal that the transfer show in both account registers-- but> I have both my savings and checking accounts setup in Money and whenever I > transfer monies from savings to checking I then have to obviously categorize > the expense in my savings register and categorize the deposit into checking > register. The transfer should not be considered an expense in a report, but it can be considered a transaction. In the budget a transfer is only considered an expense if it is from an account included in the budget to one that is not. |

| I am using MS Money 2006 and I have a question about categorizing transfers. I have both my savings and checking accounts setup in Money and whenever I transfer monies from savings to checking I then have to obviously categorize the expense in my savings register and categorize the deposit into checking register. My problem is that Money is showing the transfer as an expense in my savings register and reports. This means that it shows the expense twice because it shows as an expense from savings when I move it to checking and then when I go and actually spend the money out of my checking account I then have to categorize it into it's appropriate expense category. Wouldn't this mean that my cumulative reports are showing that money as being spent twice? I guess what I am really asking is: Is there a way to reconcile these transfers between accounts? |
