Default Re: Why doesn't Money 2006 shut down completely?

I've noticed this problem does not happen if I wait until msmoney.exe has
exited before I click on any other Windows. If Money is closing (or making
a backup) and I click on another program or change the focus with ALT+TAB,
then msmoney.exe may never exit.

I've trained myself to do this:
- Launch Task Manager, select Processes tab, highlight msmoney.exe
- Close Money
- Watch Task Manager, wait until msmoney.exe is gone before clicking or
doing anything.

This was a feature introduced in Money 2005 - it's annoying the can't fx
something as basic as this in Money 2006! - I guess it confirms the focus
that MS has on this product.

I see it maxed out. It's on the laptop with the thermally regulated fan. I
hear it maxed out, too.

No, I don't use this feature. Most of the time Money closes correctly.

I don't think it's doing anything. Task Manager shows no CPU being used by
Msmoney when it is just sitting there after I have exited the program and
the progress bar has disappeared and the money screen gone. Sometimes it
will go on for days until the next time I try to run Money and get the
message "Money is already running".

80% of the time, the program does the compression (in about 30-45 secs) and
quits cleanly. But, sometimes it doesn't.

Do you have bill pay reminder on? That could be the reason.

I'm not sure anybody on the outside knows. It may be some kind of compacting
thing. Some times for some people it runs indefinitely. I've seen it run for
upwards of half an hour using all available CPU. I've also had it crash
while in this run-after phase. I'm sure it's all for a good cause. Maybe
it's mining through the data for patterns that enable it to better target
all of the ads?

Default Why doesn't Money 2006 shut down completely?

Often, when I quit Money 2006, it disappears from the screen (after creating
and compressing the backup file), but keeps running in the background.

I have to invoke Task Manager in XPPro to kill the process before I can run
Money again. The data file seems to survive without corruption (fingers
crossed).

Any idea why this is happening? And how to prevent this?
