The change was prompted by a request for support of eGold, which is a
pseudo-currency denoted in grams of gold (or some other precious
metals). Their bookkeeping is kept to 4 decimal places.

Also there are real currencies in the middle east and north africa which
use 3 DPs. And lots of currencies which don't use any subdivisions. My
thinking was that making it flexible instead of hard-coded to 2 places
solves it for everyone.

Where would one find currencies that are stated at more than two decimal
places. I appreciate that forex rates would be quoted to four decimal places
but the amount out-turned would be stated usually to two decimal places.

Can you satisfy my curiosity?
